This one is more for old school Castlevania Fans

Many of us have been clamoring for the series to return to its roots. I say if that is the case then why not take it to the extreme. Castlevania is based off of many old time 1940's horror films. So why not make the game in black and white (or at least option to make the games appearance as such)? Now from a horror fan's viewpoint (of which I am not one) these movies are tame compared to today's standard of movie (i.e. more bloody, gory and terrifying). Is it possible to marry the two aspects of these movie era's and make it fun and believable? Fashion sense gaps aside I say why not? I would really like to see the series take on a more style reminiscent of the old games or something resembling Resident Evil. For that matter, anyone here play the game Nosferatu for the SNES? Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

Castlevania has that escence of medieval/barbarian psycho vampire hunter mada****r kicking some asses

Dracula has the escence of the old movies, Bela Lugosi style... now if we combine both... Mmm i really wonder how it could work, maybe like Sin City? or that game from wii in b/w with a lot of "gore"?

Now also we should choose between the outfit of the Belmont...

I still cannot figure how it could be... Belmont comes wearing a tuxedo, he realizes that his wife has been kidnapped and then he takes off his clothes to let us see his barbarian armor :o?  -ready for any situation-

personally i think its possible to recreate the old style horror flavor without sacrificing color.  That noir style horror feel doesnt have to be black and white, and the current consoles offer so much power graphically that it would seem like a waste to not use all the rich colors and depth to bring the world to life.

plus, black and white is fine for a 2 hour movie...but for a many hour long game itd be very repetitive and get stale fast.  one of the biggest complaints that games often get is that all the levels or areas look the same...(the recent Saw game is an example of overuseing the atmosphere like that)...and useing only black and white would definatly get that complaint on a game.

I think you can have points of black and white to emphasize places in the game where flashbacks happen. Think of Kingdom Hearts.
You are right as far as keeping the levels unique from one to the next. By that logic there is no reason to not have a scenario where you can see the castle in its most elegant gala ball form prior to the degradation setting in as time passes. This could be used as a flashback even though the idea isn't anything new.

well, the intro to Castlevania Chronicles had the black and white thing going for it.  it would be sweet if they had a whole level like that (Fatal Frame did that in its prelude also).  they thought about doing that for Castlevania Resurrection, but scrapped the idea.

Someone once did a hack of CV1 in B&W and it turned out to be pretty cool.
I wouldn't mind a new game in high res with a nice gritty horror movie filter.
