I was all over Virtual Boy Wario Land, Teleroboxer (this game has big robot titties that will beat you), and Panic Bomber. We had most of the VB games (there weren't many), and I wish we hadn't sold Nester's Funky Bowling and Galactic Pinball. They weren't very fun, but for the sake of collecting, I wish we still had 'em.

DSXL seems interesting to me. I liked the original DS's size and buttons. They felt right, and there was enough to grip. I got the Lite because the screen was infinitely better. XL seems like a merger of the two styles with a bigger screen, so its a tempting thing. I just don't like the fact that they didn't do this simultaneously with the DSi, rather than releasing it withing about a year of the 3DS.

Chances are the 3DS will probably be the stage for the next portable Castlevania, so I need to hold out till then.

well, i got my DSi XL.  very enjoyable and a good excuse to pull out the old CV games.  the giant pixels can be awful if you focus on them, but i find its fine when just simply playing the game and ignore it.

See, I don't get this "THE PIXELS ARE SO BIG AND UGLY" thing. The vertical resolution isn't that much lower than the Super Nintendo, and all of us growing up in the 8- and 16-bit eras and before had no troubles with pixels on TV screens. I still love the way SNES games look, and I'll love seeing the DS Castlevania games on a big screen so as to appreciate the pixel detail even more. There's an art to pixel drawing.

well, the sprites in Super Castlevania IV were larger than the ones in Portrait of Ruin were (the one i've started playing on the XL), especially the main character sprite.  so, when you focus in on the character and see all those pixels, it just doesn't look good.  the pixels look blocky and not very smooth, unlike what playing SCV4 looks like on an old television set (maybe a higher resolution 3DS will be able to some kind of algorithm to smooth them out better?).  but still, its something i can look past, but i'm sure it will vary from person to person whether or not its something they can accept.  for one thing, i am enjoying being able to see the backgrounds more clearly.

There's an art to pixel drawing.

I agree. I especially thought about this when King of Fighters XI was released on the PS2. You could choose some kind of graphics filter that would make the sprites look smoother (or blurrier, really), but I always prefered the sharp pixelated look.
I can't decide on the DSi XL though... maybe a regular DSi is good enough for me, seeing how I still carry the original phat DS... The big screen is awfully tempting though, but I still like my handhelds to be reasonably portable (which I'm sure the DSi XL is... dunno. I have small pockets)

The DSi XL is 93% larger. Normal DSi > DSi XL.

The DSi XL is 93% larger. Normal DSi > DSi XL.

The screens are 93% larger...not the system.

how exactly does that work? It IS bigger I saw that commercial with em side by side. Theres no way to make just the screens almost 100% bigger but not the entire thing... The screens would have to be floatin above the system like some kinda lil display satellites

Of course is the system bigger, too.

Freak meant that the whole "93% bigger" only goes for the screens, I presume.

Yeah, the system's bigger, it's just not nearly twice as big as the Lite.

And I love it so much. Played Order of Ecclesia and Little Red Riding Hood's Zombie BBQ on it last night. Love how I can see the pixel art so much better, and also the textures on the polygons in the latter game.
