I've had a turntable that's been sitting on top of my shelf collecting dust for a few years (got it on sale).

Finally nabbed some bookshelf speakers that were on sale that I've been eyeing for a year. Just plugged in directly, no need for an amp right now when the record player has a preamp. My dad had a good tube amp that I'd hoped to grab, but it turns out he gave it away to somebody for whatever reason. I'd have taken it.

So I've been going through a lot of the records I've built up over the years. Coil, cEvin Key/Download/platEAU/Doubting Thomas/Cyberaktif, video game OSTs, terrible music. I've been buying more reckidz too now that I have a means to play them. I just really appreciate a good remaster, especially when they're minted on 2xLP for proper breathing room.

I'm not an audiophile, it's more for the novelty of playing a real-world sound source and having large printed artwork. And it makes me into a more active listener when I have to get up and flip/change the disc. I don't care too much for what sounds properly hi-fi or not; my biggest concern is just having a clean disc that doesn't pop incessantly.

You won't hear me saying that vinyl records beat CDs because I love digital, but records are fun—and oftentimes it's the only format that gets re-releases or the only way to get certain things (see: Quake I and II soundtracks).

Oh yeah, and also:
meat

Soda as well.

It's also been fun buying records for albums I used to own on CD but sold off years ago and now regret. Like, there's a 4(four!)xLP of Aphex Twin's drukqs coming out and I can't wait to get my grubby little mitts on that. And I preordered a reissue of Telefon Tel Aviv's Farhenheit Fair Enough because I've been rediscovering my love for them.

It's been kinda my solace when the kids go to bed and I can be alone to just play some music while goofing around on the Interwebz.
