Koutei is right, and we brought this up a while back (I believe Serio mentioned it as well, backwhen he used to post).
Seems the 1999 battle ended with Dracula being destroyed, and then his magic castle being sealed within the confines of the Solar Eclipse's magic barrier.

Seems the next Solar Eclipse, in 2017, released his soul somehow, and he was reborn as Soma Cruz.

When the next Solar Eclipse happens in 2035, Soma Cruz is old enough, and is drawn back to the Castle... possibly without his knowledge.

Yes, the eclipse mentioned before made a lot of sense, but I wasn't sure how it functioned. now that you actually pointed it out more clearly, it makes a ton of sense more to me now.

Come to think of it, Dracula's soul is constantly in thrown back into the chaos realm whenever he's defeated/killed. Normally, Dracula is then resurrected by it's power and manifested a new body either by raw power or a sacrifice. So with the castle unable to reappear on our plain of existence thanks to the castle being being sealed away in the eclipse. Naturally, when a eclipse is around, it leaks out evil, and in turn presented an opportunity for Dracula to escape in the past, but this time it was forced to eject dracula's soul out, but not in the way Dracula had intended. thus in 2017 he reappears as a reborn soul with loose ties to it's original evil chaotic power.

Does this make much sense storywise?

Ohh, I laughed at this so much  Like reincarnation was real anyway, LOL

Trust us Dude, it's real.  :)

Despite your skepticism, there are those that believe in reincarnation and have memories of stuff they shouldn't know.

Indeed. My mom had always wondered why I was afraid of deep water and so was I. When I was very young just pouring water over my head to wash my hair would send me into a screaming panic. Then not too long ago I went through a hypnotic session and learned that in my former life, I drowned in the fridged waters of the Atlantic in April 4th 1912. I was apparently an officer onboard the whitestar liner Titanic. Though the memories are vurtually non-existant, the "feeling" of all that seemed ring the bell of truth in me and memories and feelings have extremely close ties. Even if you can't call up a memory you can still receive that gut feeling that it's all oddly familiar.

Thats about the best explanation ive heard thus far. But then again we would have to hear something official from IGA before this would ever be resolved simply because he would have to explain his method of what reincarnation is since he took the time to explain "his" version of dracula.
