So yeah, imagine you actually had the chance to remake or port some CV Games... what would you want to improve (gameplay/bonus/little story alteration)?

Castlevania 3:

Nothing wrong with this game, but i would change the choose your-path-system so that you can actually fight and get all three partners in one playthrough. And maybe make it similar to DoS Julius Mode, so that everyone comes with you. Wouldn´t change the Ending, though. Just let all three stand on the cliff side and everyones story would be displayed.

Simons Quest:

Make the way you need to take more clear (maybe a bit more linear?), and don´t let the townspeople talk *** to you, but you know what i mean.

Curse of Darkness:

I´d add some extra scenes like Trevor explaining what the point of that damn infinite corridor was, like, Sypha sealed Draculas Power with the help of Alucard or something (although it would spoil the suprise after you defeat Dullahan).
But people can’t be ruled by power alone! The sacred, the honorable, the loved…those things can rule humanity. Something evil will eventually FALL TO RUIN!!

For CoD, everything was fine the way it was except for the damn level design. First & foremost, I'd hire some competent/creative designers to implement platforming elements, unique level structure, gameplay tweaks here 'n there, etc. All other unanswered questions, could & should be explained in a "reminiscense" CD or book, which will be supervised by me & maybe I'll keep IGA as a consultant.

Now that´s a good idea. I remember something like that was done for Final Fantasy Crisis Core. "Ultimania" or something.

Here's what I would do:

CV3
  • Improve graphics to SotN standard
  • Make it so you can/need all three allies
  • Add weapons armor for all characters and ability to level up
  • Redo ending so that players hear everyone's story
  • Change choose your path to the map format from OoE
  • Add some cut-scenes with voice actors
Curse of Darkness
  • In the cut-scene after beating Trevor the second time, have him explain the infinite corridor a little more in depth.  (Like what it is, it's purpose, and the seal.)
  • Explain who and what St. Germain is more in depth as well as his purpose

Order of Ecclesia
  • Actually explain why the Belmonts disappeared and how Dracula was sealed as well who did the sealing

Regarding the unanswered questions, there was a manga series that was suppose to explain all the plot holes and questions, but it was canceled after the second volume.  I wish that they had actually continued it.

CV1 - I would make a definitive version that combines all the stages from all the different tellings of the CV1 story into one uber remake
(I'm already doing this in 8-bit! ^_^)

CV2 - This NEEDS to be remake for the love of all that is holy! Actually, there is a ROM hack in production that aims to improve the original. If it were done as a traditional game it should be modeled after CV3, but if not...

1 ) Full set of bosses that function as they do in every other CV. None of this oh-here-I-am-in-this-room-but-I-don't-feel-like-even-locking-you-in-this-time-cause-I'm-just-too-lazy-bullshit! I wanna see some bosses with at least the complexity and aggression of CV1 if not CV3.
2 ) Screw the stakes, the 5 most powerful bosses should just give you the Dracula parts for defeating them.
3 ) I demand an in-game map!
3 ) GP instead of hearts for money.
4 ) Real equipment instead of equipment style sub-weapons. Sub-weapons should work like in all classic CV games, and I demand open flames from which to get hearts and sub-weapons.
5 ) Add regular vampire enemies to give the stakes a real purpose instead of a bullshit one.
6 ) Rewritten script. The towns people can still lie about stuff to confuse the player, but I demand proper English sentences and at least one person per clue that is telling the truth. While were at it, the secret clues in the mansions should be available to view from the game menu after they are acquired.
7) New rule: all fake blocks must get permanently destroyed when struck by any sub weapon.
8 ) Holy Water must produce the Sacred Flame effect upon impact and Sacred Flame should be redesigned or replaced by something useful like a healing herb. Instead of 3 versions of the knife, make them upgrades and add the Axe and the Cross in their places. Also, add Stop Watch.
9 ) New graphics for the mansions so they actually look like mansions instead of dungeons and a different tile set for each mansion.
10 ) Castlevania must rise again after Simon collects the Dracula parts instead of fighting his ghost right then and there. (Even if the castle is only 3 or 4 stages.)
11 ) Dracula's ghost must not be a pansy little bitch and must have at least 2 forms of epic-ness.
12 ) Almost forgot! Password system based on CV3/SCV4 versions.

CV3 - Everything Archangel said, plus more bosses and music to replace duplicates. Allowing all the helpers to join would probably be easy without revising the path system. You can already encounter Grant and then Sypha on one path, so just add one additional path choice that lets you pick between the Ghost Ship and Alucard's cave and you could get them all. Maybe add a second choice to go back to the Ghost Ship after getting Alucard to complete the loop back.

CV Lament of innocence:

1# I'd change the story ach of the whole Mithiaus\Dracula crap cause it interfears with what's been established.

2# Reanimate all the cutscenes so that they don't look as chopy and stiff. especially when you see the characters up-close when taking. Also Sara is way too asian-looking so that aspect would be fixed as well since she's supposed to be European.

CV Legends:

1# Forget about putting this game on the Gameboy. I'd hall it over to the Gameboy advance.

2# Shorten the levels cause they take way too long to get through, even for a plateformer.

3# Add in more different and exciting levels and not just play the game inside the castle.

4# Give Sonia the use of the sub-weapons along with her magic.

5# Give Sonia the ability to whip in eight different directions and a whip-swing (Since she can crawl-walk why not give her the full treatment).

6# Touch up the story so that the character's lines are not so cheesy.

7# Add in animated cutscenes and add more substance into the story arc itself.

CV Curse of Darkness:

1# Several people have already tackled the issues with this one so I don't need to add anything to it other then the inculsion of Grant, Alucard and Sypha to familiarize players with the story more.

2# Remove the Hector and Dracula battle and make death the final boss instead. Since Hector isn't a Belmont and he doesn't have the Vampirekiller then there's no way he can fight the Count and being a devil forge master doesn't count either.

CV Harmony of Dissonance:

1# Fix up the Juste sprite so he doesn't look like an Alucard wannabe and to make his movements less chopy. Also remove the blue barrier cause it serves no purpose and finally fix up the vampirekiller so that it actually looks like a real chain whip and not some blue out-lined string thingie.

2# Improvements on the music are a must.

3# Redo the intro cause castlevania itself has some visual size issues. While it's big in the gameplay, it looks like some kid's play toy castle and does not fit at all with what it should really be.

Haunted Castle:

1# More lives and infinite continues like in SCV4.

CV Dawn of Sorrow:

1# Remove the weapons creation thingie cause it makes the game that much longer to play through and not in a good way. Also it's way more fun to collect weapons from the castle itself and the enemies who drop them.

CV Portrait of Ruin:

1# Give the story a complete overhall and actually make it more apart of WW2 then what we got instead. (I believe we've already had a discussion about this in another topic so I'll wrap this one up).

I personally thought the Mathias Dracula thing was pretty badass. I would of expanded on the backstory a bit, had the intro turned into a cut scene. Redo the character models... especially Leon's girl since her huge forehead wouldn't look like so... unnatural. Would of given Joachim a bigger role, and Rinaldo would of actually contributed in the final battle against his nemesis instead of staying in the shop like some pansy.

What are you talking about?

I was referring to the fact that Dracula first came about in the 15th century and not before. Also Mathias isn't the real count Dracula, Vlad Tepes is. Mathias is an emo winer while Vlad was a brutal, vengeful, phsycologicaly desturbed war lord who ruled Romania with an iron fist and was the perfect candedate for Bram Stoker's main character. That what I was talking though I guess I was kind of vegue the first time.

I think you missed the part where they stated that Mathias would eventually show up in Romania and call himself Dracula.
So deductive logic would suggest that by the time that Mathias takes up the name of Dracula he has become a 'brutal, vengeful, psychologically disturbed warlord'.
Not to mention that our actual history/legends aren't necessarily canon to the Castlevania setting.
You don't have to like it, but it is what it is until some director or producer strikes it from the canon.

Well, it's my understanding that he didn't become brutal until after Lisa's death.  Before that, he just cursed God.  He only started to go after humans after Lisa's death out of revenge.  Then again, it was never actually said.

...I take issue with the idea of allowing the player to keep all three characters in CVIII. It breaks the game design, which forces you to make tough choices and then rewards the player for replaying the game with different paths or characters (even the option to go solo as Trevor).

CV DoS and PoR - I would change the anime art style to Ayami Kojima or Masaki art style.

CV CotM - resize the sprite to bigger size so that the castle won't feel too big, and also add Hugh as a playable character.

CV SotN - Improve the difficulty and add a boss rush mode.

CV I, II and III - change the sub weapon button so that you can throw it while ducking or standing in a stair.
