This news surprised me. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Arc Systems makes good games, so it should turn out fine. It sounds to be in the right vein. I just think the visual aesthetic is starting to stretch the definition of Contra more and more (despite the fact that Hard Corps used something similar for its promo art). I also don't like that it's not for Wii as well, given that Wii hosted ReBirth. Finally, dropping the Contra name seems odd to me. I want Contra to continue, but I'm not sure this was the next logical step yet.

I suppose they just wanted to make it HD without having to downgrade the visuals any for a Wii release.

I hope Browny's in the game—although I hate DLC so damn much... Way to squeeze more money out of your customers; most of the time I refuse to pay for any of it.

Hell yes! Konami remembered that there are Japanese studios they can outsource!

No physical media for games like this still bothers me to no end, but I'm all over this when it's out. Hard Corps fucking rocked the house.

I'd definitly play this game though I would prefer a physical disk rather then a downloadable rom. In terms of the story, I'm not sure if this is a sequal of sorts. To me it's seems more like a prequal since Bahamut is in it. After all he fought in the Alien wars according to the Contra hard corps story. And the screenshots show him to be a fairly young-looking guy too. Another clue to this is that in the best and true ending sequence to Hard corps, Colonal Bahamut dies just before a missile armed with Red Falcon's DNA launches. Well...the true ending is open to interpitation but this is my best guess. But it looks good and I'd give it a shot; hands down! This game also looks alot more faithful then say...Contra Rebirth?

There are gameplay trailers of the first level up on 1UP.com's front page now. In motion, it's much different than I thought. I have to say, this feels less like Contra than even before. There is sprinting, shields, air dashes (and even an optional life bar). Not enough enemies to compensate. The 3D look somehow feels off, too--more so than Shattered Soldier. I'm not sold the way I was on the initial press of Contra 4 and Contra Rebirth. I think there's a reason they decided to drop the Contra name...this was an experiment. Right now, it's looking more akin to Gunstar Heroes or Strider 2.

I think it looks awesome, though I can see why they're not calling it Contra.

Hard Corps: Uprising. It's a catchy title to say the least. I think I can understand why they droped the "Contra" name but it's only a theory. It might have something to do with the game being a side-story of the contra series rather then a direct part of the story itself. Here we see a younger Bahamut (again in theory) fighting it out amongst the hords of the alien armies that amassed. The latest screengrabs tell me that this is in fact, a contra game though the name itself is just not there. Contra: Hard corps was is in itself a side-story because it doesn't feature Bill Rizor and Lance Bean as the main characters, or either one or the other. So imo I think this game is a contra game but a side-story telling the battle of one colonel Bahamut during the Alien wars before he learned of the corruption of the Federation government which would spur about his 'Coup d'état'.

I'll be looking forward to this. I just hope it's better than Rebirth. Didn't really enjoy that one much at all...  :-\
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

So, this (and X-Men arcade) is half off till July 4th, but only on XBLA. I've been wanting to get the game, considering getting it on PSN, but at half price, I may just have to put up with the shatty 360 D-pad. Does anyone find it a problem playing it that way? Can the joystick be used just as well?

Played the demo of this. It's pretty neat. Not really...full price neat, however, so I'll go for the half off dealio. Think I'll wait till just before the 4th in case Konami decides to drop the price for the PSN version as well.
