Castlevania 3DS Tech Demo

Looks like a tech demo of the NES version of Castlevania was shown at E3 with 3D effects for the 3DS.  Even if they aren't working on a new 3DS Castlevania game right now, maybe we'll be able to download a 3D version of the original one of these days?

Just said this in the other thread, it better be traditional Castlevania. I'm sick and tired of Metroidvania.

This article is discussing using the original NES castlevania to pull the pixels forward into a 3D effect, it's a tech demo, nothing more.

But if you mean the inevitable new 3DS Castlevania, I can pretty much guarantee it won't be traditional. The only way you're likely to see traditional Castlevanias from here on is either as download games or as reissues/collections. I could, however, see the next handheld being a LOS style, now that, at least hopefully, the 3DS can handle 3 dimensions without looking like a vomit of polygons, a la DS.
If I forgot "everything I knew about Castlevania" I certainly wouldn't be excited about a new one coming out now would I?

I think the traditional format is pretty much dead.  The only way another one will be made is if it is a remake of an older game.  For example, CV3 Chronicles/Rebirth.  Now a days, handhelds = metroidvania and consol = either LoI/CoD style or LoS.  This is just my opinion though.

I certainly wouldn't mind a 3DS port of Dracula X Chronicles.

IGA would have to leave the CV franchise before we we'll ever see a traditional platform CV game. P.S. CV Rebirth doesn't count as it is more a remake then an original title.

It might as well have been a new game, as it shares close to nothing with the original.

3DS will have a real cool new 2D-gameplay CV game with 3D effects that will be awesome..hopefully fall 2011! That′s my thinking only..

That's what I think whenever people mention ReBirth as a remake. In what way? Story? If that's the case, then Haunted Castle, Castlevania IV, and the X68000 game are all remakes of Castlevania. To me, a video game remake is one that, well, basically remakes the essential game design of an older game, like level layouts and play mechanics and all that stuff.

By the way, a 3D version of Yoshi's Island would be interesting to see if it ever goes beyond the show floor. That's my favorite game, and also the prettiest.

Indeed. when it's a tech demo, it'll most likely stay a tech demo. It it were not, I'd have seen a remake of ff8 (and believe, I so want one) or ff7.

I can understand adapting some 2D games with decent parallax effects and scaling, but I'm having a hard time imagining how the original Castlevania could make use of a 3D makeover. I'd be curious to see what they did with this tech demo.

Yeah, tech demos are just that, demonstration of the technology. N64 had a tech demo that featured FFVI characters Locke, Terra and Shadow battling a Golem in 3D. Of course, it was JUST a tech demo. That's why I laughed so much when Square Enix did the whole FFVII PS63 tech demo, and people suddenly jumped to the conclusion that it was a remake. EVEN though, right before that, they even stated it was a tech demo. It was a real hilarious thing to see, because perhaps people's hopes blind them in the same way people make total fools out of themselves when they are in love. The whole bit went like this, basically:

SQUARE ENIX: This is a tech demo showing the opening scene of FFVII, rendered with PS3 models.

PEOPLE: Oooo, looks pretty. Cool, a FFVII remake!

SQUARE ENIX: That was a tech demo, we have no plans on remaking it.

PEOPLE: But.... that was a remake....

SQUARE ENIX: Tech demo!

PEOPLE: Remake?

SQUARE ENIX: T-E-C-H   D-E-M-O!!

PEOPLE: So....... when are we getting this remake?!!

They can go screw themselves... I want FF8! I was in the mind that, I wouldn't be too surprised of a FF7 remake though, considering the vast amount of FF7 milking they did in the entire year or 2 before.

i think it'd be worth about $4 to get the 3DS tech demo version of NES Castlevania if you could play the whole game.
