A fans obligation to buy Castlevania games

This is going to sound really sales-pitchy, but bare with me here. Fans will never be satisfied because the games the fell in love with cannot just be cloned forever. But when a game comes out like Lords of Shadow or Harmony of Despair, or any main title Castlevania, should we, for the sake of the series, buy the game. Without a doubt, IGA has created some great Castlevania history, and for some, the reason they love the series. Clearly, HoD is two things, a man's desperate attempt to show he can still make marketable games, and a response to fan demands. And Lords of Shadow? Konami's restored faith in the series, an all out attempt to make Castlevania big. So what happens if no one buys the games?
Iga is out of a job, failing to show his ideas are worth a damn to anybody. And Lords of Shadow? Konami sees that, despite all it's effort, no body gives an shit about Castlevania, and the series falls into obscurity. And If we buy? Bigger budgets, bigger teams, better creative minds. More games. If we don't buy castlevania, we will never have that perfect game. If we do buy, there is always that chance.
What do you guys think? Am I on to something, or not?

Only buy games if you feel like you will enjoy them. Don't just buy it for the sake of the series.
If all us fans were to blindly buy any piece of junk with the name "Castlevania" on it; Konami would just continue to pump out crappy products cause they know they wouldn't need a solid game to sell more copies.

I developed this opinion after playing a game called
Castlevania Judgment.

Never again will I make the mistake of buying something just because it says Castlevania.

I'm interested in this.

I bought Dawn of Sorrow before having a DS and bought a PSP just to get DXC. I buy any Castlevania game, because I absolutely love the series. I like to collect anything from the series, soundtracks, action figures, books, anything, I even made a custom Richter Belmont figure and am almost done with another CV figure, all because of how much I love these games.

I think as fans, we should support the series and show that it's appreciated and will continue to be. I'm not saying everyone whose a fan should get every game or every piece of merchandise just because it's Castlevania, if you don't want to, than don't, but thats the kind of fan I am and there isn't one CV game that I down right don't like.

I developed this opinion after playing a game called
Castlevania Judgment.

Never again will I make the mistake of buying something just because it says Castlevania.

And as for that, I think that game is great. I think it's a lot of fun, I enjoy it and it has great music. While I don't care for some of the art, I don't think thats enough to lessen my enjoyment for the games.
What a horrible night to have a curse!

I did that exact same thing too. Before I got my system I already had DoS. Jeez what are we all here... in terms of buying, I will, no doubt pick up LoS cause I wish to try it out. And since it's not made by IGA it could be refreshing to play. I never bothered to buy Judgement, let alone play it and I don't even feel the need to. Ah well...definitly not my loss there.

Nope, you arne't on to anything. A fans obligation is to buy what they think is good and well deserved. If you buy everything, you aren't being a fan, you're being a "fanboy" who makes excuses for every bad thing, buy every little pos that gets puts out and then.... well doing the former with it.

Despite Iga games having pretty much the same gameplay, it game does change. And the changes are good to a point. It just depends on if you think its good or bad for yourself.

I do not think we should just buy anything Castlevania. It sends the message we will buy any shit they decide to roll out. I usually do, just based on the fact that, and I fully admit, I am a Castlevania fanboy of a fairly high degree. I purchased Judgment. I have purchased every game new in the series SotN and beyond (except Legends and N64's). I own 2 and 4 prior to that. I have played every single game in the series however. I do currently own the 64 titles for 'completeness' and the fact they were used for 5$ each at Gamestop, which is about what they really are worth anyway.

That said, I will go on the record that I will NOT buy Harmony of Despair. Judgment was one thing but this is too much a piece of shit for me to even touch.

Maybe this wasn't as apparent as i meant it to be, but I meant the main game in the series, not necessarily every product. For example,  if everyone had bought judgment im sure Judgment 2 would be on its way, and thats no good. But we all knew judgment wasn't the "next step". If the new zelda game was a gritty first person shooter in modern times, it would think it would be up to the fans to protest. But unless we Castlevania fans have been fucked with repeatedly, don't we have to trust developers a little bit? I mean think about it, the amount of good CV games FAR outnumber the bad.

Oddly enough, I think Harmony is better than Judgment.

If you are going to play the game - then buy it, don′t just download it illegally. I will buy games only for hardware that I own. That means, I will buy any Castlevania for DS and PSP if they come out, but for hardware that I don′t have (home consoles) I won′t. If a really good Castlevania comes out one day on a home console, I will want to buy it and will try to save money to buy them both. But I doubt that, since I only enjoy 2D Castlevanias. I want them to remain on portables.

Obligation... what.

If the game looks good, I'll buy it. I love the Castlevania series as a whole so that applies to most of the games, barring the likes of the PS2 titles and any GB Castlevania that isn't Belmont's Revenge. The clear stinkers though (namely Judgment and probably Harmony of Despair), I won't bother picking up at all because they look awful.

I will probably buy Lords of Shadow though, not because of some weird purist "obligation", but because it looks awesome.

I'd like to say I wouldn't buy whatever steaming pile of crud Konami rolls out for us, and it was what I was thinking when I heard about Harmony of Despair, but then I saw the demo and just went "I will most likely buy this."

There's just something about Castlevania games that make me want to buy them.
