castlevania movie problem

ok i was really excited when i heard about a castlevania movie coming out... BUT... i dont know if im the only one who thinks this so i wanna know other peoples opinions.  The part when i decided that i dont want to see the movie is when i heard that the Belmont in the movie is going to be Sonia.  Now i dont mean to sound sexist but... come on... its like all these video game movies that are coming out are getting chicks to play as the main character.  such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill... (which really made me mad cause i wanted it to be Harry)  now i hope this doesnt sound bad but i dont know of any good actresses anymore.  and why would they pick the character that was in only 1 castlevania game (not counting resurrection) im sorry but i want to see a freaking bad ass male Belmont like Simon or Richter in the movie... please tell me im not the only one who feels this way.

I thought the whole sonia deal was a hoax some asshole made. I don't think they announced what'll be in that movie yet.

While on the subject of those movies.

I have to say for one that I think "they" (most notably Cristophe Gans) did a really good job on Silent Hill, even if they changed the characters and story abit around, the feel and setting of the movie was true to the original, even the music was straight out of the games (somethink I'd very much like to see/hear in a CV movie). Mr.Gans backed up his choice of changing "Harry" to "Rose" with the fact that he felt Harry's quest to find his daughter was in reality a very maternal story.

On the other hand, I totally agree on Anderson's Resident Evil "Alice". She's there to "sex it up", and the RE movies carry very little of the suppense and themes of the original games.

In my opinion, those are prime examples of a good and a bad videogame to movie adaptation, although I understand that many people might dissagree.

On the subject of THIS movie, I'm just glad Anderson's not writing it any more (those of you who read his original script should know what I'm talking about).

Simon is the most easily identifiable Belmont of the series for those who aren't rabid fans. Richter would be the second. I would choose either one of these two for the protagonist, though I'd prefer Simon. (although a cameo from Leon in the beginning to explain the origin of the BelmontxDrac story would be good too)

well, if you go onto IMDB and check out Castlevania Sonia is only rumored. and since that has been up since Anderson still had something to do with the movie, I doubt that it's true.

I agree with the roll of Sonia in a CV movie. It would be a bad movie considering that it's a "rule" that horror movies HAVE to star female heroines. But CV, in general, has be mostly about the guys. While a game with a female Belmont is NOT a bad idea(even though Legends, IMO, didn't achieve that which I feel is a "fitting female Belmont game", even though the character of Sonia, alone, is probably SUPERIOR to Legends itself...the character is better than the actual game she's from), if you are going to make a movie about a series were guys make up the majority, go for the guy Belmont. Simon is a perfect candidate(he's the "every man" Belmont, the one both diehards and casual VG players know). They could always add onto his story, seeing how the original CV was so simplistic as far as story was concerned. DXC is adding a little more to RoB's simple story, as well as the CV3 animated feature is adding more to CV3's simplistic story. With very simple stories, very much just base ideas really(Dracula's resurrected, Belmont ventures into Castlevania, defeats Dracula and restores peace), you CAN add more to spice it up.

You're right. It wouldn't make sense to have Sonia in the movie; I'd rather see Trevor, or Richter, or even Simon. But about what you said about the female actress thing, I think Kiera Knightly from Pirates of the Caribbean would be good as Sonia  ;D

i dont really think castlevania is a horror series... maybe thats just me.  and as far as women being horror movie main characters then sure... the kind of women who cant fight and just run away and trip on something, but this is a belmont... going after the bad guy.

Imo, it is illogical and a bit insulting to cast Sonia as the main Belmont.  l mean, sonia is obscure and has been removedfrom canon.  Simon should be in the film since he is the most recongizable Belmont.  Prior to bloodlines, the other cv characters were modelled by Simon, where they look similar

I like Simon, but I don't think he would be a good choice for a movie lead. Every other Belmont has enjoyed some supporting cast members in their games, but Simon's a total loner. A movie about him would basically be nonstop fighting through the castle, which could work well as a stylized anime short, but would never cut it as a Hollywood production.

Of course, they could give him a snarky sidekick and a love interest and a father figure that dies tragically and a pet poodle, but then the movie wouldn't really be Simon's story, it would just be using Simon's name.

The animated movie has the right idea. With the CV3 cast you can have some character conflicts, some distrust, some angst, some friendship... some dialogue. "What a horrible night to have a curse" won't fill two hours.

Now, the hunter rivalry of Circle and Harmony could make for good conflict. They wouldn't have to necessarily use Nathan or Juste. Since this movie almost certainly won't be part of the games' timeline, there's no harm in going with some new characters to fill some old roles. As long as it feels like Castlevania and has the core backstory intact, it's headed in the right direction.

Sonia won't be in the movie for two reasons:

1.IGA is semi-involved with the movie.

2.Sonia is retconned.

I have a hard time believing that IGA would go for a character he's retconned starring in a movie that the general public will see.

I have a hard time believing that an American director will care all that much for what IGA has to say, considering the other crap they churn out that's based on video games.  Directorial hubris will always outrank everything else.  If the director wants to place Sonia Belmont in the movie, she will be in, IGA be damned.  The only ones who may have a real say would be Konami at large, and I don't think they really care all that much about Castlevania anymore as the series has become generic and mediocre as of late (PoR wasn't as good as it could have been).

Me too holmes I was ecstatic, till I found out who was making it and what the story was gonna be about. The director is taking way too many liberties and doing whatever he wants with the already established timeline, he even has simon and christopher as brothers. I don't know this just sounds really really bad to me and the only way I'll see it is if it gets crazy good reviews.

I'm curious to know where you got this Christopher and Simon brothers thing? I've been checking in on it and I don't think I've seen that. But if you have a link or some where you've read the plot I'm sure we'd like to know
