Becoming a monster

Remember in Castlevania 64 when you fought vampires {don't see too many of those nowadays} and you got bit and would turn into a vampire, how cool would it be to see that in today's games....and not just vampires, but if you get bit by a werewolf or zombie etc...or better yet be hypnotized and turned into a succubus as a female character {sorry...dirty moment there}. Anyways, and when you die, they should show your character {male or female} turning into whatever killed you and hear Dracula's laugh in the Game OVER scene.

Sound good or no

I think it would be kind of cool, and you could play as that particular monster and have to find a cure before it's too late and you become permenantly stuck as a monster, which causes game over. I think the 3 monsters that would make sense are vampire, werewolf, and zombie as those monsters infect other humans with diseases so they will become like them. As you become one of those monsters you get new fighting abilities and powers which could be fun.

Anyways I think it's a great idea! :)

I thought it was kinda awesome when you'd get Vamp'd in CV64/LoD and did not have a Purifying Crystal to help you... it was like you were condemned.  Eventually the character spazzes out, and you see their face change to a vampire face, then the game over screen.

This would definitly bring more of a variaty to the series. It was only lightly touched upon in CV64/LoD and unfortunately you didn't have any power upgrades if you were bitten.

Anyways, and when you die, they should show your character {male or female} turning into whatever killed you and hear Dracula's laugh in the Game OVER scene.

Not everything that bites you, killes you. If you were bitten by a lychan then you'd simply become one without dying. But it's true that zombies, ghouls, vampires, etc. who infect you will eventually lead to your death--and rebirth as something else.

Does that happen in CV64 or just in LoD? All I thought it did was prevent you from using the whip (which was pretty much a death sentence).

It happens in both games. yeah I'd almost forgotten about that too. Since you're using a holy weapon, if you're bitten then the vampirekiller cannot be used at all. And if you don't have any sub-weapons, you are boned.

I like the idea since it could make monsters more of a legitimate threat, but only if it became more than just a glorified status effect and was something more akin the transformations that GreySun mentioned but I also feel that it would be too much of a "benefit" to the player having infections letting the player adopt extremely different avatars and probably playstyles.

What I would like to see it somehow worked into the storyline of a game.  For example, the hero/heroine (not a Belmont) goes through their journey but when they arrive at Dracula's castle, the enemies get a power boost that borders on the insane at which point when the now surverely weakened hero/heroine gets to a certain room there is a cut scene when he/she is attacked by a vampire/werewolf/etc. and is infected by it.  The rest of the game you play as a monster trying not to completely lose your humanity while wielding your new demonic powers.  In essence, when you get to the castle, the game shifts from playing as a human to playing as a monster.  There are too few games with monsters fighting for good as the main characters.  So far the only ones in which you play as a monster are SotN (Alucard = half-vampire) and LoD (Cornell = manbeast).  In every other game you play as a human from start to finish.  I think such a twist in a storyline will bring new life to the series.

The idea reminds me somewhat of the Wario Land games, where different status effects were needed to pass puzzles and stuff. Could be cool, if done right.

Castleania needs less "I'm a vampire hnter and I'll kick Dracula" stories.
What about a story of a soon to be vampire searhing for a cure then traveling through the old lands of Walachia? What about a survival horror Cv title with a normal person as the protagonist being a hostage in the castle trying to escape without the powers of a vampire hunter and really fearing the creatures inside the castle? or a side story when the Belmont is not the main charachter but just one of them, for example, Maxim's story complete with travel to the east and with occasional "Eternal Darkness" moments when darkness possesses you?
Castlevania lore is full of possibilities, we just need fresh heads wanting to go, you know, further :)

Everything comes full circle
