I was a little kid, and my nieces had a SNES with Super Mario World which we used to play, (Yoshi = awesomeness) along with every commander keen on a pc. Later the SNES popped up at other friends houses aswell, with them at least having 1 mario game. I remember borrowing a SNES then and having mario all stars (again, with Yoshi!), DKC1, castlevania 4 and at least 1 other game along with it, and was a blast to play all of em.
Liked mario the best because it was the easiest to control and... it had Yoshi. DKC was also pretty fun, but got a lot harder in later stages, and when you ran out of lives, you had to complete several levels all over again, very noticeble in DKC. It had some great graphics and memorable tunes.
Castlevania was also pretty fun, i liked smacking enemies all over the place with the whip instead of having to stomp them, and the enemies were completely different, but simon didnt jump as good as mario, i really hated those fish-man-thingies (rage, rage, rage

) and... there was no yoshi

My first own nintendo was actually a N64. I wanted to buy a snes myself, along with super mario kart and these games to begin with, but my dad insisted on buying me and my little brother a N64 with Mario Kart 64. (it was the summer of 1997, it was kinda new in europe) He got us a N64, even if the controller looks strange (joystick AND a D-pad?) and the games were 3D while we preferred cartoony 2d games

.
But after a race in mario kart 64, i was sold. It was the most played game for me along with DK64 and Road Rash 64. I remember playing the first Cup to death with a friend, the tracks are still etched into my mind. Nostalgic

Later, there was also castlevania 64 which i wanted for christmas, but rumour was that it wasnt very good and had awkward controls and camera, so i asked SM64 instead, but knowing and being dissapointed that it didnt had Yoshi as a playable character in it. The camera was also pretty annoying here. Then we jumped to the PS2, again, insisted by my dad, and later followed by a Xbox 360.
