Also musics are far better, including very cool arrangements of past themes. The Prison music is one of the darkest music in all Castlevania history. New enemies and areas are a nice add too. It combines both Original elements (the complete set of Familiars, etc etc) and New elements which make the perfect SOTN version.

Hm, I actually think the new music is AWFUL. but maybe that's just me. The areas themselves adds absolutely nothing interesting apart from making the game a few minutes longer. The level design itself is a lot worse than the original areas. They basically feel very rushed. Visually, the Saturn version also looks slightly worse than the Playstation one. Oh, and I don't know about the new enemy design. Do you honestly like this;

But I'm not judging anybody. It's perfectly fine to prefer the Saturn version of SotN, just don't call the rest of us stupid.

The new music for "Dracula X chronicles" SUCKS too. Especially in comparison with the original.

Some of the music in DXC may be bad in comparison with the original, but some are better than the original ones. Especially "Cross Fear".

Yes! That's probably my favorite track on the DXC OST. I LOVE the redone Dance of Illusions too.

Personally I take them both as the same game, one can't exist without another, however I know they are not the same :P so I would be a fool to not say that SOTN is a better game than Rondo.
I like Rondo the most though, I still haven't discovered every secret stage :P

Hi shelverton,

Yes you're right, visually it's slightly *less good* than PS version. Not "worse" please. Level design of new areas is rather simple, true. That doesn't mean I have some interest in seeing them, especially the Prison with its Ghosts and Undead warriors. No the new musics are excellent in my view. Remix are envoying and Prison theme is awesome. It lasts several minutes before rebooting, much more longer than any music in the game (but the other "original" one where excellent too).

I think they have been made in rush, for sure. But they have the merit to exist. New enemies, boss, items, armors and weapons are a very nice add, not talking about the New Relic which allow to run, very useful and clever in such a big Castle.

Maria fights as a Boss, she's pretty tough and the music during this fight is just memorable.

Saturn music : Castlevania NITM: Guardian: Maria Fight (Saturn)
Saturn Battle : Akumajo Dracula X NiTM - Boss Fight - Maria Renard
PSP Battle & Music : Castlevania sotn maria battle (psp)

But apparently, nobody talks about it. I've just got the curious impression that nobody played this version. There are a lot of changes in comparison with USA version of SOTN. Familiars, relics, weapons (Alucard's Spear !), enemies, boss.

Maria is a playable character and is TOTALLY different from PC Engine or PS/PSP versions. She fights physically (including very cool Kicks !) and magically (many different spells).

I'm sorry but every player should be stupid to not play the Saturn version because it's not IGA who made it. Because this IS the problem : as IGA didn't made it, for all IGAfanboys, it doesn't even worth a try. That is a shame.

I'm convinced Innovator secretly loves IGA, since he's obsessed with him enough to constantly talk about him in all his posts  :P

It's worth a try, but not a good port of the PS1 version.

Also, what is it with you and IGA anyway.

I've yet to see the alucard spear in the PSP version. And playing as Maria in the PSP version is hard. Her animal attacks are not as strong as they were in Rondo and her more powerfull attacks either use up hearts or magic...her doves-*a-hem* sorry. Owls just suck.  :P

IGA didn't make SotN either. Also, assuming people haven't played it because they are 'IGA fanboys' is rather presumptuous. MAYBE it's because the game is only available in Japan.

Uh, no the new levels aren't just simple, they're stupid. The graphics for it sucks. The new enemies in it suck. The only redeeming quality is maybe Maria being playable but she was either broken character or a weak one. On the one hand, she can do massive damage, on the other hand she'll die in 2 hits. It sucks out right. The music was alright though... atleast for one of the area.

Look at the dumb ass apple throwing tree and flying ugly ass whale and tell me with a straight face it wasn't horrid.

Not to mention the emulator for Saturn is pretty fickle. Also the game is a poor port for the most part and visually inferior (more noticeable on emulator than the real console though).

I made a rather lengthy post about this topic awhile ago.

http://castlevaniadungeon.net/forums/index.php?topic=2555.0

The Saturn version as far as I am concerned, is mostly inferior to the Playstation version where it counts; performance.  The extras are rather shallow and feel especially thrown together.  It doesn't add anything new; the new items and weapons suck, shoes of god speed are still not a replacement for backdash-cancelling, and as was mentioned, the new areas are short, straightforward, and not particularly interesting.
