Saturn version is ok and maybe the Playstation version is better. I like the fact that you get to play as sexy Maria on the Saturn though ;D

I love Saturn version. It has a quite good graphics, but only if you choose the right emulator or real console.

There are a lot of cool things, add-ons and features,
but the most awesome thing is that you can play for Maria.

Because of the stupid Youtube videos created by people who use bad emulators,
a lot of Castlevania fans think that the Saturn version has a bad quality, while it is NOT.

If you don't believe me, just try:

The Saturn version as far as I am concerned, is mostly inferior to the Playstation version where it counts; performance.  The extras are rather shallow and feel especially thrown together.  It doesn't add anything new; the new items and weapons suck, shoes of god speed are still not a replacement for backdash-cancelling, and as was mentioned, the new areas are short, straightforward, and not particularly interesting.

Ok for new short areas, it's correct, but that's all. Everything you say is wrong.
I'm OK with slightly-less good graphics. This is true.
But the Saturn version offers much more than only 2 new areas.
It is quantity AND quality !

* Many new awesome music including great remixs of past themes.

* 2 new boss including Maria with exclusive dialogue and scenario and a superb theme which is not in PS version.

And about the fun factor of the Godspeed relic : Do you really have fun on backdash-cancelling gameplay ?
In my opinion, using cheats or bugs is just a pain-in-the-ass.

It's hard to choose, but I'd go with the DXC version of Symphony of the Night. It was already an awesome game to begin with, but it was redone the way it was meant to be. Maria is now a full playable character to unlock with her own attacks, the fairy Alucard can summon now sings her song Nocturne, and the voice acting and script was redone to sound slightly better.

I absolutely love SOTN. The game knocked my socks off when I frist played it. It's soothing just to meander through and explore.

But Im a sucker for old style platformers.

Which is the best?........like picking a favourite food or movie, It all depends on the mood.

Try Saturn version. Maria from SotN Saturn is FAR better than from DXC.

She actually "fights" (doesn't attack with doves)

Everything comes full circle

Well I think attacking with doves is better, because that's who Maria is. She has the power to summon animals to fight for her which I think is more true to her character. Of course that's just my opinion. :)

Maria doesn't attack with doves in the PSP version of SotN. She uses her pet owls as her primary attack...and they are weak as hell! The real strength of Maria's power lies in her magical animal attacks and her secret martial arts move. That's about it. I've never play NitM but I've seen screen for it and Maria in that version is a powerhouse! Maybe they toned her down in the PSP version just to put her on par with the other characters and to add some form of challange to the game itself. Or it could be a that Maria isn't a direct decendant of the Belmonts so her powers are weaker then Richter's (this one is probably IGA's excuse). I'll admit, it is very tough to play through the game using Maria. I mostly use Richter.

I wonder why Maria's dove was changed to an owl? I mean I kind of see how an owl would fit in more with her being a vampire hunter like Richter because owls are nocturnal birds who hunt in the night, which is the time vampires comes out. But the doves seem more realistic as a possible vampire-killing weapon like the cross and holy water because they too are a holy symbol in Christianity, even though there's no recorded myth of vampires being harmed by doves.

You're kind of comparing bell peppers to chili peppers here. They're both peppers but they're not really the same thing.

Both of them, I think, are the best of their Castlevania "type".

That being said, I'd have to say Rondo, just for the fact that I've played it more. That's mostly because I'm a Classicvania kind of guy though. I like the feel of Rondo. It's very twitch, Richter is very heavy, I love the music, and just feel overall more accomplished when I beat it.

That being said, SotN IS longer, so it would make sense I haven't beaten it as much.

I think that was done to somewhat tie her to her Judgment version, which is her AFTER Rondo but BEFORE SotN, and she has a pet Owl in that.  Its name is "Osca" I think.

I always thought the change from doves to owls is symoblic to Maria's age.  It doesn't explain Maria's other creatures, though I assume they have aged as well.  I mean, in Dracula X, she might have kittens whereas in SOTN, she has adult cats.

It could also be possible that since the owls are her personal pets as oppose to sub weapons, they are the only ones to "mature".
