Favorite Classic Sub-Weapon

Which sub-weapon is your favorite to use?  Personally, I like the axe best.  It can hit enemies that are out of reach, which is a big plus in games that don't have a double jump.  Plus, it usually does decent damage to enemies.  It's not as powerful as the cross/boomerang, but it's arcing attack path is far more useful.  I can truly say that the axe has saved my ass in boss fights a lot more than the cross/boomerang.  It is a indispensable weapon in the classicvanias.

The Axe. It has an advantagous arc that gives me an edge in combat. It was strong, it kicked serious CV @$$ and when powered of with tripple shot, I owned the bosses!! Especially Death.

For me it's a tie between the cross/boomerang and the holy water because of the almost guranteed multiple hits, even without the double or triple shot. If you have the triple shot boomerang and lots of hearts for example, forget about it, it's over. In a way, that was about as close to an early form of the Crissaegrim as it got.

Depends on the game/boss/situation. For CV1 and 3, broken ass holy water all the way (though the axe is very, very handy if you're doing an only-Trevor or Grant run in 3). In Dracula XX the axe hits pretty hard and works miracles on Dracula himself. In CV4 the cross is just slow enough so that it hits many times and the triple shot basically guarantees bosses dying in less than five seconds. But they're just different enough that their usefulness varies between games. I've gotten good at some of the games to the point where I finish levels not having used any hearts except against the boss.

I can only really say that the knife is NOT my favorite. At least the stopwatch saves your ass in block 6 of CV1, useless though it is in almost every other game. Pretty much anything the knife can do, the whip does better up-close.

For all-around utilitarian use, I'd say the axe because I fucking hate flying enemies with a passion.

I love the Axe, but i always found the Cross to be the most effective, against most enemies/bosses in terms of damage, especialy with triple shoot!!! So i voted for the Cross!!

2 reasons I voted Cross:

- in the old days, enemies were positioned right in front of you. Nowadays, I use the Axe all the time because they're just out of reach
- a lvl 3 Cross lasts great the whole game, all bosses

Aaaaaaax. Shit arcs, yo. Way handy for all games that aren't Castlevania IV, since you can whip upward anyway.

Cross. You can throw it forward to hit enemies in front, then jump over it to hit enemies in back. Runner-up would be axe. What about the Book from Rondo? I love that thing too.

I perfer the holy water. It looks the coolest when you use and it's good on land enemies, plus the item crash where you make a rain of holy water attack enemies looks really cool.

As for Maria's sub-weapons in Rondo of Blood, I like the cat subweapon. How can you not like shooting a cute baby white tiger at monsters?  :)

Cross is my favorite hands down. The boomeranging path adds a bit of strategy to it's use that the others either don't have, or in the case of the axe, don't have as much of.

The WHIP.

Seriously, I like too much sub-weapons to chose one. Axe, Cross, Holy Water at least.
