The difference between RoB Maria and DXC Maria

I thought this would make an interesting topic to discuss. I've noticed there's a bit of a difference between the Maria from the original Rondo of Blood and one in the remake known as The Dracula X Chronicles.

For starters lets discuss the fact that the Maria in DXC was potrayed as more of a full-fledged heroine, where as in RoB she was more of a comical joke character. Take for example the two different introductions to the character. In Dracula X Chronicles Richter rescues Maria and shows concern for her safety by telling her to go home, but we learn her parents are dead which leads to sympathy for the character. Then when she demonstrates her powers by summoning a dragon Richter realizes she's a lot stronger and braver then she looks and allows her to join him on his quest to rescue Annette and defeat Dracula However in Rondo of Blood Richter rescues young Maria who introduces herself as a vampire hunter like himself and offers to join him, and Richter laughs at her like she's batshit insane. There's never any demonstration of her powers or real sympathy for her, she's just shown as appearing silly.

I think Maria was re-created in The Dracula X Chronicles to be a more serious character. Even the way Ayami Kojima draws her she looks more like a real heroine than a funny little kid in a pink dress. Like on the boxart where she's shown holding a crucfix with a deep thoughtful expression on her face like she really is prepared to hunt vampires alongside Richter.

There is definitly more to Maria's story in the DXC and the game makes her more of a serious chatacter too. However it all could've been done without having to drasticly change her outer appearence. I will agree that Maria's DXC outfit allows her more of a realistic sense; movment and otherwise, but at the same time it takes away from her istablished iconic look. HD brought that back but it was in the wrong game  :P

Fact

It was difficult to make 3D model of long hair and a long skirt.
I'm on hiatus now.

Like Koutei said it is harder to make 3D models in a long dress with long hair that move around and fight. That could explain why they made her wear pants and made her hair into a ponytail.

Anyways I think what they were trying to do was make Maria relate more to her character in Symphony of the Night. She dresses and acts similar, though in a way that makes it believable that she's still just a kid.

I guess that's why I perfer DXC Maria to RoB Maria, because she's treated more as an actual heroine instead of a joke character.

They did it in CV64 with several enemies and bosses and I saw no problems with it. It all worked out.

Well I dunno, I just know I've always heard it's harder to make playable 3D models with long hair and dresses then it is to make them wear pants or short skirts and have short hair or a flowing ponytail.  :-\

The animation was pretty bad in 64 imo.
Well, a lot of the animation in DXC was janky regardless of their efforts to minimize boggling animation problems too, but I can see what they are talking about.

BTW, am I the only one who thinks RoB Maria and Princess Peach from Mario Brothers could be twins seperated at birth?  :P

Dude! That never occurred to me!  :o It must be something about Japanese culture to have blonds in pink dresses and blue gemstones on their collars.

lol yeah I was thinking the same thing. I can get past two blonde girls in long pink dresses, but the fact that they both have a blue stone on their dresses seems like a weird coincidence.  ;)
