I am just...embarrassingly bad at the earlier games. Even the remakes, like Dracula X Chronicles, hate me so badly. I'm pretty good at Symphony and the Sorrow series (except for that stupid number block room in...was it Dawn?), I was decent at Lament, okay with Curse... Portrait was so fun but it's been so long since I played it that I can't remember how good I was. Harmony of Dissonance beat me up, but I finished and adored it. I'm still stuck in Order of Ecclesia -- I know what I need to do, but I'm too frustrated to actually do it.

I want to go back and beat the earlier games, but they make me want to turn my consoles into confetti D: I don't see how you guys do it.

I curse and swear.  ;) But seriously, to some, the games can be a real b***h to get through. Just persevere and you should do fine. You don't have to be a wizzard at it, lord knows I'm not. But just do what you can and try having fun along the way.

The more you play them, the better you get and the more you appreciate them  ;) Just keep at it and you'll be able to get through them just fine eventually.

Games in that time period had fixed pattern AIs. Take the Mummy men for example. Castlevania 1, third boss.

If you count the number of steps each takes before it launches projectiles, you'll see that the numbers are related. Then you can calculate and predict when the Mummy Men will stop, thus allowing you to dodge when needed and damage when possible.

I'm best at DXC. Weird thing is though it's just the DXC version of Rondo and not the original. I'm also pretty good at CV1.

omg you people one-life Dracula's Curse...shit...

Haha...my thoughts exactly.

I'd call myself competent but not extremely great at CV games. I'd be lucky to beat the original Castlevania in about 70-80 minutes or so. Come to think of it, I think the only games I consistently try to perfect are the Contra games.

But I'd say I'm best at either Bloodlines or LoI, and that's only because I've beaten both on the hardest difficulties, I guess.

My God, the E-Penis in this thread is staggering!  I mean, 1-lifing all 4 scenarios of Castlevania 3?  Get real.  How can you enjoy the game if your ego gets deflated by *gasp* getting hit *GASP* dying **GGAAAAASSSSP!**  continuing from game over.  Picture this --insanely anal gamer 1-lifes all the way through Castlevania 3 to the final stage, suddenly they get distracted by an untimely hiccup and bat knocks them off the swinging pendellum into --bottomless DEATH!  Suddenly their 1-life quest is ruined and they wasted a good hour of their life --only to hit the reset button and try again.  I mean, really?  Gaming is supposed to be a leisure activity, not an obsession.  If you're really that obsessive about what you're playing, you need to get a job as a gamer tester --at least you'll be paid for nickling and diming the fuck out of the whole experience.

most people that make such über-claims are prolly lying their asses off anyway. "i can beat most cv games on 1 life w/o getting hit" yeah ok.

Im sure most of you know that the holy water is the most broken weapon in CV1 & 3. Has anybody here ever 1lifed CV1 with out spamming the holy water? I sure as hell can't I mean yeah, I can get through it without it but it usually does take more than 1 life for me.
I now Prossess a what?

think I only managed to do that with Castlevania III was because at first I couldn't beat the game without save states. But I didn't want to feel like a total hax. So I decided to only save at the beginning of each stage (in order to keep my sub-weapons and whip upgrades) and said to myself that I had start there again if I died. It's a very good way to practice the stages and learn all the patterns. I kind off build it up from there and then it really isn't that hard.

I'm sorry if that upsets anyone. l-lol

I don't think I've 1 lifed CV1, much less beaten it without the aid of holy water. I know there was one time where I beat Frankenstein pretty flawlessly without the holy water, but Death, man... He's just a jerk if you don't have it.

I wasn't intending to impress... or to come off as Arrogant.
But you do gotta remember, I've been playing Castlevania III since 1990.  That's 20 years of experience with the game (and counting).  Give Trevor his TripleShot HolyWater, give Grant a triple Axe, Sypha uses the Lightning Bolt books (unless you decide to get the FlameTongue Book near the end 'cuz the Lightning Bolts don't seem to like targetting Dracula's Weak Spot), and give Alucard a PocketWatch.

It's toughest to take Alucard's Path, but it's not impossible.
I do get hit, but I seldom die.
