Hmm that's tough, I've always really love Simon's Quest, the exploration aspect and getting to interact with regular people was great and I loved the whole day/night thing and the different endings, the level up aspect was cool, (symphony wasn't the first to have this contrary to popular belief ;)) and it was the first one I ever played but I probably am gonna have to go with 3, it just blew me away when I popped it into my old nes the first time, the music, the option to pick the route you take to the castle, getting 3 new allies you can switch between all with their own unique abilities and talents, as well as having one of the most fun dracula fights in the series make this one my fav.

I think that idea had a lot of potential, but it was flushed down the drain by incredibly random and confusing dialogue.  Well, at least we got some very memorable quotes out of all of it.

All things considered, though, Simon's Quest is a great game.  I always preferred it to Castlevania 3.

Yeah the dialogue is a bit misleading if you don't know the game, god why did nintendo always have drunk people as translators back then? If nintendo had translated the game properly I think it would get a lot less flak from haters. :)

Ya know what? I changed my mind. CoD is no longer my favorite Castlevania. In fact, I'm sick of it altogether. Now, my favorite is Harmony of Dissonance. I love that game. It is just so awesome to play as Juste and even more awesome to play as Maxim. Yeah, speaking of him, he is now one of my favorite characters. Even though most of Harmony's music was annoying, I've actually found a lot of it to be quite cool and entertaining. Like the Merchant's theme for example, and the Clock Tower (and of course Successor of Fate, but I wasn't going to say the obvious ones).

For me, I'd divide things into "Classic Castlevania" and "Metroidvania". Otherwise, my head would explode trying to rate them.

Classic: Rondo. Hands down. Last and best of the classics before they turned to the Metroidvania formula. Runners up would be CV3, CV4, and Bloodlines. The GB games were subpar except for the music. CV1 is nostalgic, but it pales in comparison to what came later. I believe I've made my feelings abundantly clear as to Dracula XX. ;)

Metroidvania: SotN. Simon's Quest didn't age well for me, but I don't hate it. I haven't really played much of the others to be honest though.

So yeah...I guess I'm totally a late 18th century guy. Richter and Alucard are the shit.

It's confusing even if they did translate it right (which they supposedly did on the WVC version). Whoever decided that the method to call the tornado was a good idea should be drug out into the street and shot. Not to mention the whole oak stake crap.

HOW THE HELL WAS ANY REASONABLE PERSON SUPPOSED TO FIGURE OUT ANY OF THAT?!?

But yeah...other than those oversights, it's a good game.  ;D I totally found myself disagreeing with most of AVGN's rants.

I think that's what makes the game fun though, it's like a big puzzle, filled with little ones like myst, you don't know what to do it's all trial and error and hoping you talk to the right person who isn't lying. It replaced the crazy boss fights with crazy obstacles and challenges. It's also the only castlevania that is impossible to get the best ending the first time through, you have to know what your doing and what you have to get and don't.

Talking to people didn't help me at all, whether they lied or not. They all spoke in metaphores and crap! How was I supposed to know which town is Jova and where the Denis woods are?? The whole game just gave me a really bed headache, but eventually I managed to finish it, with the help of GameFAQ's  ;)

Yeah gamefaqs is really great, I never would have gotten 1000% of the map uncovered in POR w/out it some of those secret areas are just hidden so damn good.

My favourite Castlevania game is a toss up between Lament of Innocence and Symphony of the Night.  Both games had great stories and fantastic music.  For music it really is a toss up between Ghostly theatre or Woodcarving Partita, although I adore both soundtracks.  There were a few good tracks in Curse of Darkness, but the game was below sub-par to pt it nicely.

I loved the music in COD, I thought just about every track was gold. The music in LOI was great too but I can't really listen to it outside of the game. For some reason it just doesn't work it's magic for me when I'm not playing LOI. :)

LoI music? Eeeeeeew.....It had some good things like Lament of Innocence, Melancholy Joachim, and Castlevania Reicarnation, but everything else was too......saddening and made me feel both homicidal and suicidal cause it was all dark and Gothy, too much so even for me....
