I just played it, it's pretty great.  Got me a few Energy and Missile Tanks and made it to the first save point.

I also got my hands on this game after replying to this thread this morning. The game-play is very solid. Even more-so then the hacks I've seen out there as of late. The music fits the areas well and while simplistic, it all works out well.

This looks interesting, but to say its the best Metroid since Super is rather idiotic.

You'll need the Metroid Super ZeroMission patch, an IPS patch utility , a SNES ... can create their own miniature Metroid adventure, give Minitroid a shot!
