Xbox 360 controller with a decent d-pad?

I've been playing a lot of side scroller platforming, beat-em ups and recently the new MK. I like to use the d-pad for these types of games but the one on the xbox 360 standard controller is complete trash.

Could any of you recommend a controller with a good d-pad? I like the d-pad on the Wii mote so something as good as that one would make a huge a difference.  I can barely pull of moves in MK with standard 360 controller :(

Havent they replaced that yet? A new controller was due, the one where the buttons are all silver instead of coloured. The 360 pad is notoriously crap, very poor I found with Street Fighter IV but Im not much of a beat em up fan anyway so I dont notice too often. There are plenty of 3rd party pads out there, or you can just get an arcade stick.

Have you tried the new one? I never have but it's supposed to have a much better dpad.

And it is out, it was 60 bucks the last time I checked but that was like a year ago.

yea the new with the transforming d-pad...It's only 42 bucks on amazon but the reviews made it sound like the new d-pad wasnt much better... I'll keep looking for now I think.

It really isn't any better, it just feels like the same exact D-Pad only now you can twist out the "+" area, still doesn't feel like a true D-Pad :/. The japanese Xbox has a great D-Pad, might wanna check if they bought those to america or hell import it.

Yea pretty much the impression I got from the customer reviews I've read... this one seems like it might be what I have in mind. I'm not a streetfighter fan but I can ignore that: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Street-Fighter-Round-FightPad/dp/B002WEATOE/ref=sr_1_7?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1303938366&sr=1-7

Just for the heck of it I ran to the local Gamestop during my lunch hour and they actually had one of the street fighter IV controllers in stock! And it was 10 bucks cheaper than amazon.

So, I picked it up. Hopefully it will work like I need!

Its still kind of a weird D-Pad, not horrible but still nowhere near as good as a ps3/wii classic controller d-pad

How about the Hori Pad?  Hori is usually awesome with their D-Pads:

The problem (probably?) is that it doesn't look like it's wireless.

EDIT:
There's also this controller:

I personally don't mind at all if a controller is not wireless. It helps save money rather then purchasing batteries all the time.

This one is called the Razer Onza. Looks pretty cool. Too bad Microsoft doesn't let other companies make wireless controllers. Although it's also nice not to have to charge or replace batteries all the time.

I like wireless better but it's not THAT big a deal if it's wired. Such is the case with the streefighter fightpad that I puchased. It's wired which isnt a deal breaker but so far the d-pad on this thing is FAR superior to the standard 360 controller.

I was having trouble just doing skorpion's (my fav character) "get over here!" move (which is just back back X button) reliably. With this new controller I'm doing that and much more with ease.  Takes a little getting used having RB and RT as face buttons but shortly after using it I had no problems with it really.

I'm very happy with it so far.

I have a Street Fighter IV controller as well, def better for fighting games. As that's what it's intended for. The Sega Saturn style controller is my favorite. I have the 2 of them for PS1/PS2 and for Dreamcast also. And of course.... Saturn. My favorite one being the actual Sega Saturn version.
