I don't really like the idea of buying abilities.

leveling up encourages lazyness when it comes to retreading areas.  i was just playing the Castlevania Puzzle game, and realized that when i'm playing enemies i've leveled up so that they're really easy to beat, my playing style becomes sloppy and i have to "relearn" all those tricky tactics that were required to beat hard enemies once i return to an area that's challenging for my level.  same applies to normal vania games.

Yeah, finding them is way more fun.

Amazingly enough, what most who have commented in this thread want, is what LoS offer

You only actually level up by gaining new abilities and getting HP and MP power-up's.

Hadn't thought of that before. Interesting.
But some people aren't comfortable with buying moves and I understand that, it clearly damages suspension of disbelief to some extent (One second ago he didn't know how to swing the whip this way but now he does!).

I could vote no, but I liked the old Metroidvania style at its time so I think it worked, and I could vote yes but as I said before, i'm not too GaGa about buying attacks so, go ahead and rape my mind, dark priest :P

Everything comes full circle

I don't mind leveling up, but only as long as it doesn't involve grinding of any kind, lol. Ecclesia and CoD got it right with using skill/timing in order to earn your abilities and loot.

IMO ... There are many ways to play a game such as castlevania. For example if you are finding the game to easy MOST of the castlevanias have a speed run option.  Also leveling up can be just as hard as a game where timely button presses are important... For example I have seen a few people level SOTN alucard to level 99 .. That to me was impossible!

I really like the way lords of shadow did it with collecting the life and magic gems, the brotherhood arcs and using the exp to learn new abilities. Leveling up is nothing special and it gets too tedious. At least with finding your abilities it makes you go out and search for them rather than just a boring grind. I think they could make this work with a 2d metroidvania, and I'd like to see that happen

Castlevania has so much potential.....especially the 2D games!!! It would be great a metroidvania without grinding, just max up power ups, abilities and equipment, but non linear.......i wonder, how it would turn out......i'm still waiting for something to impress me, after Symphony of The Night, not only with game play, but with graphics, on a 2D Castlevania game.

Circle of the moon, was having something different....an interesting game play mechanic, but it fall short in terms of graphics and the movement of the character was not the best. I have said it again, but i would like to see an improved game, using that game play mechanism, the DSS or something similar.

I believe the main problem is the lack of the inspiration and fantasy of the developers. By the way, i wonder if we will see anything new on the E3...................
