Not sure if it has been brought up but the creator/author for Vampire Hunter D has started a spin off with miss Kojima doing the artwork called Vampire Hunter/Another: The Noble Gray Lancer.

Woo!

Always knew Kojima would be good in the VHD universe! Just one more little connection between Castlevania and Vampire Hunter D for me!

Never read VHD, but that's cool to see Kojima working on a CV-like story! :)

Awesome news! I still haven't read the VHD novels, but I watched Bloodlust, and I can see a lot of similarities between D and Alucard. After all, Alucard was inspired by D from VHD ( or so it is said) . This isn't the first time Kojima's working with Kikuchi Hideyuki. She illustrated a lot of his novels.Of course those novels are only available in Japan, and they prolly won't come out in the US. But there's a chance this new series get translated, after all it's the spinoff of VHD, and if I'm not mistaken, VHD is pretty popular *crossing fingers*
Nice cover btw. And thanks Lumas for the news :)

This is interesting, and bloodlust is the best anime vampire movie I've seen.

This is good news.  I've seen both VHD movies and read the first 9 books.  FYI, Bloodlust is loosely based off of book 3.  And when I say loosely, I mean loosely.  You have mostly the same characters, but their capabilities are different and the ending is very different.

I found the books to be almost juvenile in its characterizations. Perhaps it's just the translation?

Loved the movies though. While the second movie definitely beats the first in terms of story, style and artistic beauty, the first feels more Cv (movie open with a girl that looks like Sonia, whip and all), but that's perhaps because it feels more like a videogame.

speaking of which, anyone else play the PS1 game? Was cool for it's atmosphere, played like oldschool Resident Evil (which made it a bitch).

And this has to do with Castlevania because...?
But yeah, it's always nice to see Kojima's talent (The woman is da zhit, even with her orgasmed-faces, I can't get tired of them.. outside CV) and I love Vampire Hunter D, it's like a match made in heaven!

I was only expressing my opinion :P it's the equivalent of opening a thred of how hot kate Beckinsale is in Van Helsing because both things have to do with Draucla, Castles, hunters and the game has a reference to the Belmonts.. but that's just me :P  my apologies

Well here are a couple of reasons:
1. Vampire Hunter D's story is strikingly similar to the Castlevania Alucard/Dracula story, almost as if they belong together, even if they are completely different universes.
2. the obvious similarities between characters, such as the aforementioned D/Doris and Al/Sonia.
3. Castlevania and Vampire Hunter D came out almost around the same time.  They are sibling series.
4. This thread makes mention that Ayami Kojima, a designer for Castlevania, is now designing for Vampire Hunter D, now making the universes even closer together, now artistically.
5. A person connected to the Castlevania franchise is now doing other works.... sort of a "Where are they now?" of Castlevania important people.  Thus, it's still Castlevania-related.  Even more so if the works mentioned are already similar.

Vampire Hunter D predates the CV series, but no doubt inspired some ideas. It's utterly uncanny how D/Doris is like Al/Sonia. Of course, D and Doris came first. But the similarities are there, nonetheless. A "hunter" esque character who wields a whip and fights the creatures of the night(Doris) is very Belmont-esque. And yeah, I agree with whom ever said the first movie felt the most like a CV movie. It would be hard to accomplish that style of movie now because of the certain differences in storytelling and style, but for back then, it worked rather perfectly. Take away the post-apocalyptic sci-fi elements, and it could very well be a CV anime.
