And this has to do with Castlevania because...?

The first animated movie came out in 1985. Castlevania came out a year later. Later games later incorporated aspects found in the VHD movie. While it's not directly quoted as being the inspiration for the Castlevania series, the VHD film is the spiritual ancestor to the series.

In VHD Bloodlust, you can even see some inspiration that could have been taken from Castlevania games.

• The flooded ruins Charlotte sits by look incredibly similar to the Atlantis stage from Bloodlines
• Castle of Chaythe looks like several incarnations of Dracula's castle; mostly SotN (though the entrance always reminded me of the first part of the Castle Entrance in Belmont's Revenge, too)
  
• Barbarois village looks like an amalgamation of several of the abandoned/ruined village stages in the games

Bottom line - if you read the books and know the story, or even look at just the movies, you can see clear core similarities to the two universes.....almost to the point where the Vampire Hunter D universe could easily be a "What If....." alternate universe of Castlevania. (That's how I see it, anyway)

In my opinion Kojima is not very good in comprison with Amano, being honest I always see her like a Yoshitaka Amano-wannabe. She may be really happy now for being involved with Vampire Hunter D

I disagree. Im my opinion Amano is overstimated. I personally think that all his works look like if they were incomplete

I admit that it does look good but the face is ugly. I think that i think about it, incomplete isnt the right word. It feels sketchy. I mean it is complete and all but I still feel like if it was drawn by a talented (possibly asian) teenager without any social skills in school alone. It doesnt feel finished to me, a feeling that i do get with Kojima

Posibly asian because (i think) they rock doing drawnings, paintings, virtual pantings, etc (or atleast thats the impression i get from Deviant Art)
Without social skills because a drawing like that would requiere loads of time and it feels to me like it would be done by a teenager in school (I mean inside the building, when you have classes, etc)

Is not that is bad, it is good, is just that it doesnt look good or profesional enough  to me to be praised so much as it is praised

Kojima's style is different than Amano's. Of course both are really talented, and Amano is a legend, but something i noticed about Amano, is that he doesn't use shadings a lot. It's as if there is no shadow in his paintings. Also he uses watercolors , which makes his paintings look so bright.
Kojima focuses  on rendering flesh tones.As far as I can tell she uses acrylics, which are closer to oil paint . Plus her influences are totally different than Amano's. She likes gore, surgery and she was impressed by the effect produced by oil paint when she was studying arts in high school. She created her own style that includes these elements and it works very well.
For me the comparison is  vain, since both artists are good and they have their own styles. Whether you like Amano more than Kojima, it's just a matter of taste really. Amano is too fantasy for me. I like Kojima's gothic/disturbing art better.

I don't mean to derail the thread, does anyone know what does Dracula have on his head? Is it some kind of unholy mitre or something? Playing this as a kid, I always thought it looked like pilot goggles. 

The only Vampire Hunter D I've ever seen was the dubbed movie a long, long time ago (according to Wikipedia it's probably the '85 film I saw) on VHS. This thread really makes me want to go check out more, though.

Posting a topic on Ayami Kojima that has no relation to castlevania in the "general castlevania discussion" section seems pretty off topic to me & just plain dissappointing if you were expecting something Castlevania related from the post.

Well here are a couple of reasons:
1. Vampire Hunter D's story is strikingly similar to the Castlevania Alucard/Dracula story, almost as if they belong together, even if they are completely different universes.
2. the obvious similarities between characters, such as the aforementioned D/Doris and Al/Sonia.
3. Castlevania and Vampire Hunter D came out almost around the same time.  They are sibling series.
4. This thread makes mention that Ayami Kojima, a designer for Castlevania, is now designing for Vampire Hunter D, now making the universes even closer together, now artistically. 
5. A person connected to the Castlevania franchise is now doing other works.... sort of a "Where are they now?" of Castlevania important people.  Thus, it's still Castlevania-related.  Even more so if the works mentioned are already similar.
