I have to agree wholeheartedly here. They delivered what we wanted for years, with an unrelated franchise. Why the HELL didn't they give them the Castlevania license?! AUGH!! So pissed right now!!

I'm going to love this game, and yet probably hate every minute of it knowing this could have been one of the greatest Castlevania games ever.

Pretty much THIS!!

I'm itching to play this game, but in the back of my mind I can't shake the "dammitsomuch!!! This should've been Castlevania" feeling.

Oh well, let us all be thankful that at least someone cared enough to step up to the plate and make exactly what some of us hardcore fans have been asking for.  It may not "technically" be a Cv, but we can all pretend that the game takes place in the oldschool Cv universe, just with a different group of evil dudes (it's not like Dracula is the only bad guy in the world). She's like a female Alucard, only less whiney and mopey.

WayForward really deserves our praise and support just for the effort alone. The fact that the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive shows that those efforts are worth laying down some cash for. Seriously, if you claim to love Cv at all, send Konami a message and GO BUY THIS!! (and then spread the word in the various formus you post in).

It's very possible we'll never see WayForward make an actual Cv, but supporting this game couldn't do anything but make it more likely.

With the QTEs, kinda, but the whip combat itself kinda reminds me of a bizarre hybrid of... Ninja Gaiden and Rygar? LoS and GoW look like they do different things with combat.

My thoughts exactly. From the moment I played it, it came off much more like NG than anything else.  there is some GoW in there, but not much (whip like weapon doesn't count)

So did anybody pick this up yet? Just curious as to what your opinions are on it. I'm probably gonna download it when I get off work.

Playing the demo on my 360 right now, my thoughts so far:

Controls are nice but it make take some time to get use to.

Visuals are nice complete with some great animation through the background sometimes overlap.

Combat is decent (think The Dishwasher/Shank) and the dash is very useful for dodging enemy projectiles, which they will use often. And the handgun is useful for taking out multiple distant enemies, though it only aims at one direction and you need ammo for it.

Music is nice from what I've heard so far, sounds like something you would hear out of Curse of Darkness.

Overall it's a solid game and it's pretty much the closest thing to a new 2D Castlevania game (that's not a port or a mish mash of re used sprites) that we're gonna get untill Konami wakes up.

Grabbed it this morning, and so far am loving it. Really feels like Cv1, only much faster and obviously much much prettier.

Whoever mentioned the Dishwasher above is spot on, feels a lot like that. The controls take a bit getting used to, but aren't difficult. The only Cv fans I could see NOT liking this would be those who hated LoS for it's fast combat. Reason being, this game requires some serious reflexes and timing (particularly when dodging bullets). Button mashing will get you killed, you need to play the game how it was designed. Take the extra minute to read the 'How to Play' section in the options, doing so will make your life easier.

This game was absolutely designed to be played on a big screen TV! If you've got the setup, the game is simply magnificent to behold.

I actually wouldn't mind a more fast-paced Castlevania game. It would add a new element to gameplay that we haven't seen before, so I say bring it on. The only reason I would say is a good reason not to make a CV game more fast-paced is that it would require larger maps to traverse in order to lengthen gameplay. (unless more/harder enemies were used to increase the time it took defeating them)

The platforming in this SCREAMS Castlevania. I find the combat to be really fun too, but the platforming is SOOOO good. It's a damn pretty game as well. On level 6 and IMO, the game is worth the $15 price tag...or $12 for PS+ members.

I just played the demo and I'm really impressed. I could see how this could really work for a Castlevania game, but I think with some minor changes. Maybe not have the arcade style "can't leave the screen until all enemies are defeated" thing, and maybe add some more platforming with things like whip swinging, but that's just my opinion. Really awesome game though. Might have to get it when I have some extra cash

From what I've seen, the game looks like a nice hybrid between Castlevania, the GBA Astro Boy, and perhaps a pinch of Mega Man X. Not a bad combination at all; I'll try it out when I finish my homework reading.

lol, it does remind me of Astro Boy now that you mention it. Played though AB a few weeks ago in fact, awesome game. Treasure are truly one of the oldschool treasures of gaming.

Back to BR, just want to warn you guys, I'm on level 12 or 13, and the platforming becomes ridiculously unforgiving at times with practically no leeway. Some sections I had to repeat at about 20 or more times. While annoying, Cv1 had the same issue, learn the game or die, so it doesn't actually bother me.

Well, just beat it. Simply an astounding game!! I'd give it a 9.5 out of 10.  Once you learn and yet comfortable with all the moves, the game becomes absolutely badass! Game was all kinds of difficult in platforming too...

Anyhoo, if anyone needs help, just let me know. The path is fairly strait forward, so you're not gonna get lost. As I said before, BloodRayne plays like a stage by stage Castlevania, but with the combat of AstroBoy and the Dishwasher, with possibly a little of the xbox Ninja Gaiden thrown in for good measure.

I'm hoping it sells well, and either Konami invites WF to make a 2D Cv, or WF just makes a sequel to this. Honestly, after playing through the entire game, I could go either way. I honestly don't care that it's not a Cv game anymore, and just love it for what it is. Would be really cool though, that since this game progressed more like Cv1,  that for the next one they went in more of a Cv3 direction, giving you multiple paths, and possibly a second character to play as...

*BIG SPOILER BELOW*

How are your rankings, VK? I can't seem to get any higher than a C. I range from C to F on every level. Do I suck at the game that bad or is it this unforgiving for everyone?
