Devil May Cry - Continuity Screwups :D (contains spoilers)

Yes, Devil May Cry is one of my favorite game franchises of all time. This can be taken as bashing, but honestly, I'm only making this cuz DPAlucard told me to. ^.^ And may as well point them out.

It was originally supposed to be off the top of my head, but I winded up coming up with, like, 1 point, so I researched some of the rest again (I even included non-canon points and non-released game points, just for the hell of it):

Considering this entire thing contains spoilers...
(click to show/hide)

This is all I typed out from using what I thought off the top of my head and using iMDb. There are more, but I can't really think of everything at the moment. Excuse what I said before, I didn't mean more screwups than Castlevania, I commonly exaggerate things. Sorry if that screwed this whole thing up. ^.^

NOTE: I only used memory and iMDb. There  are much more out there.

If you have any others to share, feel free to post it. I'll update as I remember/find more.

hmm I didn't know that stuff. I like DMC but only the ones I've played of course, DMC 1 and 3, the rest I don't know yet.

So in that case... to avoid any head explosions I'll just go with the version of DMC 1 being the only canon like I read earlier in the other thread >_>

Nice points.

But At this point I would not consider anything shown in DmC to be canon at the moment since it is still in its early stages and has not been officially "confirmed" be be part of the established canon.

It was only said that it was a prequel story if I recall correctly.

And regarding this line in your post

"As minor as this is, it should be pointed out. During Dante and Vergil's first battle in DMC3, Dante was not wearing his amulet, nor did he put it on during the fight. However, after the fight, Vergil was shown tearing it off from around Dante's neck."

This really is not a story screwup. Its more of a programming scewup that tends to happen in alot of other games. They can not show Dante wearing the Amulet through the whole game so when it became time to show it it just showed up around his neck. The same thing can be seen
here
Devil May Cry 3 -[Cutscene Movie]- Part 2

and here
Devil May Cry 1 Part 19 Dante VS Nelo Angelo 3

Clearly Nelo Angelo and Vergil where both not shown wearing the amulet beforehand and yet out of nowhere similar to Dante it appeared.

I will agree with your point. It was listed under continuity, which I mistook as story. My mistake. ^.^

-It shows clearly that Eva (Dante's mother) had blonde hair and that Sparda had silver hair. So where did Dante get the black hair in DmC? (Note that this pertains to a game that is unreleased. Fan speculation also says that he dyed his hair because he was "ashamed of his demon side")

Either Eva or Sparda had a brunette parent (probably Eva, since Sparda's parents were assumably demons from Hell) and therefore their child could have dark hair.

^That is not confirmed and is left as a plothole at this point. Of course, DmC is not out yet, so we'll wait and see. ^.^

That wasn't actually about the plot. It was about genetics  :P

Wait... I thought 3 was supposed to be the PREQUEL to 1. That was why Dante was more rambunctious and wild, and appeared to be younger. I think it comes first in the series.

Oh, whoops. Put it backwards in that one sentence. I was typing in a rush. ^.^

Well..yeah. You wondered how Dante can have dark hair if both his parents had white/silver hair. My point was that is completely possible for two blonde parents to have a brunette child

I know, I understand that. It still counts as a... problem in the game sort of... until confirmed. I'm still going with the idea that "Dante dyed his hair because he's ashamed of his demon side" thing, even though it is a quite crappy plot device.

Dante dyed his hair because he received word from Capcom executives they wanted to make a live action film and was told to dress like a gangsta. Because they want to make a gangsta film. With demons. And they thought it would be cool if they called it Devil May Cry, because hey brand recognition.

That's my story theory at least.

Also, you'll see that Dante's demon form changes from DMC3 to DMC1,but i don't recall any explanation on it.

It changes in DMC4 too. I can't remember DMC2, but I think his demon form just changes. Like how Dracula has a different second form every game.
