I disagree.

And one of the main reason is that 2.5D eliminates 1 thing that has always plagued the 2.D castlevania games and that is sprite recycling.
That's has nothing to do with 2.5D. They can always make new sprite art. And a good sprite art > any 3D model.

uhhhh why doesn't it?

Like I said 2.5D completely eliminates the option of using recyled sprites while regular 2.D could still end up using recycled sprites.

They could make a new list of sprites if they wanted to but lately they have not bothered to.

Thats why I think it would be better in 2.5D.

CVDXC looked pretty darn good graphics wise and that was only on a handheld.

Just imagine how good they can make a 2.5D CV game on something like the Xbox360 or PS3.

Its just a matter of personal taste I guess.

Don't get me wrong I love the regular 2D graphics such as Castlevania Symphony of the Night for example.

But I just think that 2.5D obviously takes it to a better level of greatness.

Castlevania Chronicles: Dracula's Curse would be an excellent 2.5D launch title for the PSVita

However, an original game using 2D spritework with parallax backgrounds (think Strider 2 with crispier graphix) would also be excellent for the 3DS

And MercurySteam can continue work on Gabriel's Epic Journey for PS3/360

2D > 2.5D

Unless the 2.5D uses sprites.

Either way the gameplay would be 2D.  Although HD sprites could be an awesome sight for Castlevania, my main concern is that Konami would continue leaning toward the lazy, anime art instead of the more refined work we've seen from Ayami Kojima.  3D modeling in HD would enforce a certain level of artistic sophistication and detailing that sprite art has the luxury of ignoring.

Konami has demenstrated time & again their inability to kick the habit of recycling old sprites, there is no greater example of this than Castlevania Harmony of Despair.

You know what might be interesting?
A 2D game with hand painted backgrounds & characters animated in fluid 3D.I've seen point and click adventure games that do this & they look pretty neat. Most games the other way around (hand drawn/sprite characters & 3D backgrounds) tend not to mesh together very well even though there are some pretty good games that do adopt it.

Out of curiosity do we have more than one source yet that confirms Konami has plans for the Anniversary?

They can reuse assets from DXC. It doesn't eliminate shit.
Just because they had been recycling the sprites from Rondo, doesn't mean that if they get a decent budget they can't make new ones.
I don't think DXC looks that good, anyway. The original looks better IMO.

Like I said its a matter of personal taste and differing opinions.

So lets just leave it at that shall we.

Also Cecil made a good point.

The same point can be made about 3D modelling. Just because it's 3D modelling, doesn't mean the end result will be good looking.

I mentioned this a page or two back...  NONE of the major gaming media have picked up on this story, nor has Konami come out to make an official statement on the matter.  IGN is usually very good in its Castlevania coverage, so I'm shocked that a week has actually passed without them attempting to verify this news.  If Konami is indeed working on something, this info was no doubt leaked to pacify us --and if that's true, Konami may not comment on "rumors" until they are officially ready to make an announcement.  I looked around on IGN's site, but I couldn't find a particular contact there for any sort of investigative news.

Symphony HD sprited to look incredibly detailed, would rock better than 2.5D.

id take either tho
Laura and Gabriel arrive in the deepest cave of the castle and... they find IGA.

I'd rather take a 2.5D remake. Rondo looked fantastic, I think, and had some great back ground detail. As much as I like 2D sprites, I just think Symphony in 3D would look great. Plus it would go nicely with DXC rondo.

in fact it would be great if they rereleased the Dracula X Chronicles version of Rondo with a 2.5-D remake Symphony so they go well with each other. But we'll probably never see that.
What a horrible night to have a curse!

The only problem with Rondo(DCX 2.5 Ver.) was that the small cut-scenes looked tacky up close, considering those models weren't made for close-ups. Though, if they make a new 2.5D CV, I'd reckon they'd learn their lesson, and maybe invest a little more into the texturing so pieces in the background don't look like someone used to "blur" tool in Photoshop.

I don't think they have the sprite artists capable of creating HD Symphony sprites that retain or improve upon their detail. I always found the animation in DXC kinda floaty, lacking in weight, too. The aesthetics for DXC itself were kinda muddy and bland for the most part too. It was good, just not particularly inspired. Rondo sported a lot more personality even with its inherent limitations.

I guess in any case, I'd like something in 2.5D, just with better art direction and animation.

How about Lords of Shadow in 2.5D.

LOS done as a 2.5D game? heh I would find that pretty ironic after what was said about 2D not being marketable or whatever during it's development.

...And if your suggesting a 2.5D Lords of shadow game for the 25th Anniversary than I reckon your just plain crazy
that would be like rubbing salt in the wound for those of us who aren't 100% behind Konami's little reboot.
