Ah! Samhain is the BEST time for CV. When the veil between the worlds is thinnest, as are the walls of the Castlevania. Any and all Castlevania will do then!

Thunderstorms, winds, massive rainfall, all set the mood for CV. Sometimes I read things in Latin or Romanian or look at Ayami's splendid artwork, that puts me in a great vampire-hunting state. Organ music, choirs, they send shivers down my spine and then I just HAVE to take up the whip! That is why Symphony's soundtrack leaves me enraptured and I can play it for a long time and usually do.

I like playing Lament of Innocence around Lammas because of the story of sacrifice surrounding that time (August the first.)

And Order of Ecclesia whenever I feel oppressed. Shanoa is a character I can relate a lot to.

Otherwise, when there's a chill in the air and a full moon shining bright, the only light coming from my TV screen... it's time for my inner vampire huntress to emerge...

If you're about my age I might be in love! ;3

What about when you enter those pitch-black rooms with the ominously silent symphony playing in the background? That'll get you a chill or two during Halloween.

When it's raining and a thunderstorm is going on, I alway pop in Castlevania Symphony of the Night(unless the power goes out.)

Also one time I decided to wake up at 3 in the morning and play Super Castlevania and I finished it at sunrise, it was an epic feeling.

I've had that happen a few times. Couldn't sleep, so got up and played something, eventually beating it around sunrise. Epic indeed.

Vampire Killer: Whooaa, duude, Costume Quest looks awesome. :o Gonna haftoo give that one a playthrough soon.

1.  Yeah, Costume Quest is awesome. Plays somewhat like Mario RPG, in that during battles you can do extra damage or defense by hitting the right button at the right time. The humor is fun and light-hearted, and the graphics and aesthetic design are superb. Game can probably be beaten in about 8-10 hours if I remember correctly, but it's only $10 (800 msp) so it's a bargain if you ask me.

My wife and I have this thing we call 'being little', where we'll do something that makes us feel like kids again. Watching the new Thundercats anime this Saturday morning definitely made us feel 'little', if you know what I mean.  Playing Costume Quest, especially on Halloween, can definitely make you feel like a kid again.

2.  About the teens. I once (when I was in my very late 20's), had a young teen mack'n on me something fierce for a while. No idea why, but she really wanted a piece of this. I won't deny that I was sorely tempted (especially because she was seriously hot. Why couldn't this happen when I was younger I thought).  I mean, back in the day (even less than 100 years ago), girls that young got married to older guys all the time, and no one thought anything of it. It was perfectly normal. In some parts of the world it still happens.

I almost went through with it too, but my moral fortitude got in the way.  Well, that, and my whole being a "Christian" thing (it was one of those times where I kinda wished I wasn't so morally aware. Annoying interfering conscience). What really killed it for me though, was the knowlegde that this girl, no matter how she looked on the outside, had the mind of a child. Granted, a teenage child, but you know what I mean. Those of use over 21 tend to look at anyone under 18 as children, particularly in their mental maturity.

Back in the day, life was more difficult, and I suppose people matured faster. Teens now-a-days though, mentally, are children. Hell, these days most people don't seem to really mature mentally until around 23-25. Anyhoo, I say all that to say this. Just as a teenager, no matter how that may look, is not yet mentally mature, so too are they lacking sexual maturity. The porn fantasy, where-in some hot young teen girl just has to have it, and really knows her way around a cock, is a lie. And the 1 in a million girl you might meet that personifies that fantasy is to be pitied, not preyed upon. (not saying you would prey upon anyone, just making a point)

Ha ha, all good points. I talk a lot of bullshit that I only partially mean but play up for the hell of it. The fantasy element of smoochin' on some beauteous teen is certainly there, but I'd never actually go that route.

Speaking of thunderstorms, we're experiencing a light one right now. Gray skies, lightning, thunder... Cool stuff. Still doesn't really put me in any mood to play a video game, though. :p I'd rather just enjoy the storm and not take anything away from that by focusing attention on something else.

You overestimate the maturity of people. I find most of us are just plain immature idiots for a large portion of our lives, far longer than the mid twenties. And don't confuse the loss of a sense of fun for maturity.

Last time I played a Castlevania was over the weekend. My electricity was knocked out by this raging electrical storm, so I took out the DS and loaded it with Classic NES Series Castlevania. The smell of the rain was nice while I played. I can pretty much play these games at any time, I think. Simon's Quest is especially nice around Halloween for me. It's incredibly atmospheric and seems to capture that season really well.

When I'm sick .Lol no, but I like playing Castlevania late at night, when it's raining. I almost wish It would rain more in here
I can play for hours and I usually forget about everything else. Also whenever I'm pissed off I pick up SOTN. It helps me calm down. Must be the music.

i. don't. know. what. to. say.  :-[
But it was pretty freaking hilarious.

But seriously, I already do have a boyfriend. (2 years difference; I will be 18 in a month yesterday, and he will be 20 in December.) Sorry.  ;)

Back in the day, life was more difficult, and I suppose people matured faster. Teens now-a-days though, mentally, are children. Hell, these days most people don't seem to really mature mentally until around 23-25. Anyhoo, I say all that to say this. JONATHAN!! STOP TREATING ME LIKE A CHILD! :P

Seriousness: you're right. When I was 3 years old, my parents decided to enroll me into a Catholic school. I was born one day after the cutoff date for registrations, so I had to have all sorts of tests run on me in a hospital 2 hours away, including IQ tests. My IQ was measured at 132 and when I was around 4 I had the reading level of an eighth-grader. All I would do is sit by the bookshelf and read. In preschool I was allowed to spend time with the kindergarteners. I read medical dictionaries. And was a game junkie, always. When I was putting together the collages for my graduation party just last month, I found pictures of myself playing Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, etc. And I loved listening to MIDI files on the computer before I knew what an MP3 even was. I was published in some poetry anthologies and a teacher even commented that my writing was some of the best she saw in 20 years.

(bragging over) :)

That is why, when I first read about Circle of the Moon at age 7 in that issue of Nintendo Power Advance, I read and knew about Greek mythology enough to appreciate the DSS cards and marvel at them (to the point where I carried the magazine everywhere I went). For me, Castlevania was some kind of inevitability. When I purchased Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia in New York City in December of '08, I thought of it as a curiosity, but after I finished it, it was like having a ginormous weight lifted off my shoulders because of some major religious changes I was going through. It was the first game to ever "speak" to me (but that's a story for another day.)

Aaaaand... that said, I will admit that I have the sexual maturity of a brick. Me and my boyfriend don't even do much. We just enjoy each other's company and do normal teenager stuff like play video games (he did manage to get me hooked on Fallout, for one), listen to vinyl records, and seek out pieces of retro technology. I did have to borrow his SNES to play Super Castlevania IV, since I don't own one of my own. Yet.

By the way, I did play LoI at Lammas and I still am. I just did remember, though, that I played it in complete darkness a couple of times, and it was freaking beautiful. I was legitimately terrified a few times too. Good show.
Does the alternate game-over where Sara screams out "Leon! LEOOOOOONNN!!" scare the crap out of anyone else besides me? The first time I heard it I think my brain stopped working for two minutes.
with love and squalor, narkolepsi - back to the lab again!
