Hanafuda is a japanese card game which Nintendo started off doing for about a century before video games,
There are alot of Hanafuda video games, here is a video on hanafuda.

Also, Nintendo STILL makes Hanafuda cards, and there is a deck for purchase for 800 coins at club nintendo.

I used to have a copy of that book that chronicles Nintendo's history. The really interesting thing isn't that Nintendo started off as one of the first companies to market plastic coated hanafuda cards in Japan. The really interesting thing is that for a long time their biggest customer was the Yakuza.

Also, Genjuro from Sam Sho 2 is basically the personification of the hanafuda cards.

its funny, The Atari, ColecoVision, and Intellivision would have Started and Ended Video games until Nintendo came along, Redisigning both the Famicon and its Games for American Appeal plus a Shitty (really cool back then) Robot to reboot the game craze to this date.

Looking back with all this info though, the Nes Cartriges were a huge waste of materials, the chip was roughly 1/3rd in the plastic, the rest was hollow.

but its all cool though, Nintendo is still booming and booming Hard with the 3ds (sales went up over 4.000% in a week due to price drop) and the Wii U hitting the Market Next year, Finally Stepping up to the Competition back into a 3-way with Sony and Microsoft, but I have a feeling nintendo will come out on top Next-gen, two reasons...

1. Sony's Selling the Vita just like the PSP, which means high sales at first, low sales until the end of lifespan or Hackers, MAKE ORIGINAL GAMES! Spin-off titles get you nowhere.

2. Microsoft is being overconfident and over-reliant on the success of the Kinect, bad thing is that it feels like microsoft is forcing Kinect on its customers and eventually (like myself) people would stop giving you money, and when the PS4 and Wii-U will have free online with Voice chat, Not many people will invest $25 a season just to play games online and to watch the already paid hulu plus and Netflix.

Sony can redeem themselves but microsoft never changes course, so I wont be suprised Next-Gen Clash would be PS4 vs. Wii-U

I really have to wonder where Nintendo would be today had they not chose to invest time, money and resources into the field of videogames. While I can't say they would no longer exist, I do believe their company would only remain in Japan and would never branch outward to the rest of the world.

Sounds like another console war as it was with the SNES Vs Genesis or the PSX Vs N64. I personally never saw a point to these console wars, attack adds and other such bull  :P

to me the Console wars isn't about which console is better, its about the two consoles who get the spotlight and full attention of gamers and developers/

The old (and hereditary) CEO of Nintendo tried dozens of ideas to branch the company out into other markets. Everything from electronic shooting galleries to love hotels bore the Nintendo logo in Japan. Eventually he came to try the video game thing despite his abhorrence of it.

LOL! That amusing! The idea that made his company famous is the same idea he hated.
