Thing is, you can easily make a game like that and still be much better. Judgement for its downfalls, at least does the premise alright. a Time traveler from the future brings different heroes  from different eras (as well as the antagonist duo of Death and Dracula) to fight this time monster. There. Instead we have this sorry excuse for an excuse "oh its this book and theres castle dracula in it and the recorded heroes are gonna take the castle down from inside the book and stuff. There is no actual story here." At least Judgement even had interactins between the characters in the pre fight banter, such as Simon recognizing Trevor as his ancestor.

I like the different zoom options, that you can see the game pixel-per-pixel, zoomed in, or have the map fill the entire screen.

Other than that, I fucking hate that game with every ounce of my being.
Oh yeah, and also:

I like that I can play as Alucard in HD. I don't like when people get mad at me because I can't jump kick off of skull heads in chapter 9.

I don't like when people get mad at me because I can't jump kick off of skull heads in chapter 9.

There really is a easy way of doing this and its not really your fault if it goes wrong.

The person who throws the skull should throw a second one AFTER you have jumped off the initial one.

If he doesn't than that makes it pretty hard to do so.

I had the same problem when someone kept throwing a single skull at a time.

But when I played with someone else who knew what they where doing and threw a second skull that I could kick off of than that made it ALOT easier and faster.

I've started to not play this game as much.  I'm getting too frustrated at the amount of time I have put into trying to get good items to no avail.  I think I have beaten level 6 on hard mode about 50 times by now, and I still get crap from the golden chests.  When I say crap, I mean crap - like super potions or even items that come in purple chests.  The best I can do as far as luck items go is double sun/moonstones, and I'm not even sure if that helps since the role of luck is fiercely debated online.  Some say it does nothing, some say having higher luck is actually hurtful when trying to get good boss drops and that the only positive effect it has is for soma souls.  If I could just get my hands on something like valmanway then I think I would start liking the game more, but for now I'm sick of being the only guy on the team who doesn't have any great items and I'm getting bored and frustrated.

I know what you mean.

It took me 20 tries with friends beating Level 11 on hard before I could finally get the Muramasa+1 sword.

And now I have currently been trying to get the Sonic boots Beezlebub and I have beaten the level atleast 15 times now and STILL have not gotten anything.

But thats nothing.

For the past week or so I have been playing online with people on stage 10 trying to get the valmanway sword.

But even after beating the level atleast 30 times now I still have not gotten ANYTHING.

I understand making a item hard to get but this is just ridiculous lol.

That it revitalized my interest in Castlevania, after Lords of Shadow took it away. Still, a lot of stuff in Harmony of Despair really pisses the hell out of me.

Judgement's was pretty ok.

HD barely has a setting. just an "excuse" for having the all them characters together and for all the other stuff it does. a story for it would have benefited it, no matter how simple.
Would have made it seem a bit less like a cheap cash in and look like they actually put some effort into it.

It was a point made by a number of fans that the game lacked any decent amount of storyline (especially after DS releases). I agree that the game could be made just like Harmony of Despair but with an actual storyline (Though I'd opt for more characters and stages over working on a storyline).

If they ever do make a sequel, I want to see stuff like the characters from the 3d games being made into 2d sprites . Particularly Aeon from Judgement, since he's a decent character and can assemble all of the heroes of the different eras and probably would have reason to do so. That and interactions between the characters would be just as awesome in a sort of story mode of the game. Since majority of Harmony of Despair has been just copy and paste, having some elements that are made from scratch would help Harmony of despair as a whole.

I actually was working on a made up pitch for a sequel for Harmony of Despair with stuff like that (just for fun), but haven't had time to work on it as of late. Wouldn't know if anyone would want to read it either (Im a lengthy typer as you can see xD).

The game is really addicting

Lots of characters to choose from, and they each have their own playstyle and upgrades

Music is cool too

Being able to pick from 8 or so different color palletes for your character

The challenge...the experience of playing with other friends and teamwork is great.

Figuring out new strategies by trying out different moves and equipment

The only nitpick I have with the game is I know 8-bit is cool and all...but I wish they would have used the 16-bit, CV4 Simon.
