Yoshi's Island is a masterpiece

Long ago, in the year 1995, Nintendo created Yoshi's Island: Super Mario World 2. Playing that game right after release, I can honestly say much like Sonic the Hedgehog and Genesis, I didn't like it. Of course in 1998 or 1999 I got my first Genesis and started picking up games for it, including the Sonic games for it, started liking the little blue hedgehog, and my Genesis. But in the early 2000's my ex sister in loaned me her copy of YI to play. I got instantly hooked but never kept the game (she did give me Super Mario RPG free though), but after picking it up recently for my collection I must say, I've now grown quite fond of that little game. From the drug like fuzzies, to the shy guys on stilts, to the crazy final battle, this game had me hooked for life.

It was one purchase I'll never regret (unlike my Day Dreamin' Davey purchase, argh) and never forget, great games like this don't come around often, and they don't make games like this anymore. My Sega purchases also extended into the SMS and Saturn.

its acutally pretty suprising how long that game can get, all for the goodness.

If you love YI, I recommend the Yoshi's Island 64, you'll probably have alot of fun with this, I know I did.

I've seen videos of it, it doesn't hold a candle to the original, and I hear it's super easy too.

oh yeah, its super easy, and it doesn't quite feel like the original.

but its pretty fun and the graphics makes the game feel like the Prototype to Little big planet.

I'd say give it at least 10 mins, if it's not your cup of tea, oh well...

there is always the DS Game (the platforming one), but I'd avoid it unless you can deal with a slow clocking game. (like contra 4, but slower)

I have played it, sadly wasn't my cup of tea, unlike the original, it just doesn't feel timeless.

yeah, I still remeber plenty of areas and a few of the bosses, namely the one on a circular plane and you have to stomp steaks down to kill it... good times..

Haven't had a lot of time for YI, but that's the good thing about a game like this, you can take it in small portions. Takes longer to finish, but why rush through it. :D

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island has consistently been my absolute top favorite game since its release. That's a little over sixteen years now. And unsurprisingly, Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest and the first DKC have remained my second and third favorites, respectively. What a great Q4 year that was, two great classics back-to-back. Other great SNES games came out around the same time, like Earthworm Jim 2, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (though I didn't get to play this one till Christmas 1996), and I'm sure others that aren't coming to mind right now. Fuuuuuuck, I miss the 16-bit era, particularly the SNES; I was (and still am) a Nintendo fanboy.

I've never gotten much enjoyment out of Yoshi's Story. Disappointing pseudo-sequel. Yoshi's Island DS isn't especially exciting either, though it's all right. Yoshi's Island was a beautiful thing in every aspect and will never be recreated or topped.

Yoshi's Island is totally amazing.   The music and level design are top notch, and the game is long.  The real genius behind that game is that it truly is for everyone.  'Hardcore' gamers can find a challenge in that game by trying to get a score of 100 in each level (it's NOT easy), and little kiddies can have just as much fun messing around in the first level for 40 hours.

Yoshi's Island is, IMO, the best Mario game created to date. The gameplay, the creativity, and the art style are just astounding. It has the perfect amount of challenge, allowing most any Mario fan to beat it, while giving the hardcore players something extra in attempting to attain a perfect score on each level (which opens up more levels like Poochy Ain't Stupid).

I mean, how can you not love a game that looks like 16-bit chalk drawings, and has a boss that swallows you and then after defeating it's stomach, craps you out (love the look on Yoshi's face after that happens)

Yoshi's Story on a N64 though, is crap. Granted, you're free to like it, but it doesn't hold a candle to the original. It plays and feels nothing like YI. Plus it takes the whole "kiddy" feel of YI and turns it up to 11, making you feel that you are indeed playing a children's game. Not sure what Nintendo was thinking on that one.

I honestly never got into YI. I gave it a try but concentrating on keeping baby Mario on my back while dealing the enemies and traps kinda turned me off a bit. The graphics on the other hand were amazing. I'm surprised that they never did that right off the bat for Super Mario World. It would've made the game that much more impressive and not quite so plain. To this day I'm surprised no one has made a graphics hack for SMW doing what I just described (though I do keep looking all over the net for it).

Yoshi's Island is my favorite Super NES game (Sorry Super CV IV...); the graphics, music, gameplay, challenge... all of it was top notch in my opinion. Definitely an instant classic. It's always worth replaying through again and again.

Yoshi's Island DS, on the other hand... UGGGHHH. The graphics took a massive nosedive; they lost the charm of the original YI sprites. The music is terribly bland and forgettable compared to YI's as well. The concept of multiple Babies was neat-sounding, but it really was not pulled off well; the "abilities" of the babies were moreso designed to be used to simply clear obstacles instead of being useful in general, for the most part. The difficulty curve was also pretty badly dealt with; the "challenge" devolved into "How much shit can we throw at the player at one time?" by the later worlds (though the final level was piss easy).

As for Yoshi's Story/YI64, I find it to be an underrated classic. Sure, it may have been much more "kiddy" than YI was, and the difficulty may have been toned down, but I don't think it was BAD. The thing is, unlike YIDS, Yoshi's Story wasn't really meant to fill the shoes of the original YI, so that's why I wasn't nearly as disappointed with Yoshi's Story as I was with YIDS.

Ha ha, BUUUUUUUUUULLSHIIIIIIIIIT

Games look more alike to me now more than before. And the new creations and unique games were generally more entertaining then.

Yup.
