I personally prefer the metroidvanias.  I would like to see 4 changes, but I can deal with the way they are.

Changes:
1) No more leveling up (just max ups and and equipment)
2) No more room cloning (rooms that exact duplicates of others)
3) Larger castle
4) More games with areas outside of the castle

I also prefer the metroidvanias.

But I would love to finally see a 2.5D metroidvania.

I used to think that metroidvanias are better, but now that I played the classicvanias, I can see why they are so popular, especially with the older fans. Personally I'd like to see more old school games in the future. Since SOTN we only had metroidvania games , with very few exceptions, and to be honest i'm starting to get tired of them. Still I think I'm gonna vote for the metroidvanias, just because I love SOTN and because you can replay those games to get new items etc.

I like retrovanias the best but I don't mind metroidvanias, just that theyre getting rather stale.

I'd have to say I do love exploration, and some minor RPG elements. I think level-ups are unnecessary, and the whole system when done the usual way makes it too easy. OoE helped there though.

I'd like Lament's no-level system back though. In fact, that is exactly what I'm doing for my own game.

THough i can't complain with the metroidvania's like sotn which are truly awesome. I really still like the old school cv1 and cv3. They are what started it all for me!

Metroidvanias WERE getting stale, but now that there aren't any new ones coming out anymore (Despair does NOT count) I'm beginning to miss them. I really want one with some changes (already brough up here), and not yearly ones. But a Metroidvania every 4 years wouldn't kill anyone, would it? Then they can release classicvanias and LoS-sequels inbetween.

Yes.  This is what a metroidvania should be.  It's also where LoI did things right.  Imagine SotN with leveling and no crissargrim.  Now that would be a fun challenge!!!

I like Metroidvanias and Old School CV, and CoD....

They all had their ups and downs, but I like em all, but there's no choice for all but LoS style. So I'm not voting.

But then again, LoS isn't a complete failure either, combat was pretty good, barring some bosses and QTEs. Platform was pretty boring in it though.

I don't really prefer either, but I think there's still a lot of potential to be explored in the metroidvanias.

I like slightly Metroidvanias, but i chose the i don't care option, since i love every Castlevania that's coming out, either Metroidvania or Classic.
