There are a lot of vampire stories out there. Depends on what 'universe' you are in.
For example -
Trinity Blood has Krusniks and Methuselahs (vampires) Krusniks feed on Methuselahs.
-The Krusnik or Crusnik's as they are called are vampires who feed on the blood of other vampires.
-They possess immense power and destructive potential and are nearly invincible.
In Vampire Knight there are different levels of vampires. Pure Bloods are the royal pure bloods and can not be stopped even by other vampires, only by other Pure Blood or the Vampire Hunters Association. To kill a Pure Blood is a great crime. There are the aristocrat or noble-class vampires which are a step below the Pure Bloods and can be controlled against their will to do what the Pure Bloods wish them to do. Then there are level E vampires which are humans that are turned by a Pure Blood. In this universe only a Pure Blood can turn a human. They eventually devolve into mindless killers and are either hunted by the aristocracy or the Vampire Hunters.
In the Feehan universe there are Carpathians, a powerful and ancient race and vampires. The male Carpathian is what we would perceive as a vampire however they are not killers. They feel no emotion, can not see in color, but have many gifts, including the ability to shape-shift, and extended life spans, living for thousands of years. Until they meet their lifemate which can either be a female Carpathian or a human with physic ablilites they live on the verge of turning 'vampire'. If they do then they devolve into madness and begin to resemble the Nosferatu of the old 30s movie. With so few females left, males usually either become vampire or "greet the dawn" (i.e. commit suicide). However, when they do find a lifemate, the ability to see in color and their emotions are restored to them, and their souls are saved.
Those are just 3 I can think of off the top of my head.
