Playstation 3

I've been thinking about getting one (already have a wii. Don't care about the X-brick)and I have some questions about it.

1. Can you play all playstation 2 games on it? I heard that some don't work.
2. Can you save ps1 & 2 games to the system or do you need memory cards?
3. Are they well made? They cost too much to have to get more than one. I've never had problems with my ps1 but all my friend's ps2s are messed up in some way.
4. What is the best model? I heard of the 80gig and 40. Are there others?

Thanks for any help.

Nowadays you are either a graphics whore or a fanboy. BR is Shank not CV. It is ridiculous to think that it is better than CV. If it was CV then it would be what RE4 is to Resi, a series killer. Dumb it down and make it look pretty. Enough idiots will buy it.

Oo! I just got a 60 gb PS3 bout a month ago! I can help!!

1. Can you play all playstation 2 games on it? I heard that some don't work.

Only on the 20 and 60 gb. The 80 gb is about 75% compatible and you have to download patches onto your system, much like 360.

The 40 gb is not backwards compatible at all.

2. Can you save ps1 & 2 games to the system or do you need memory cards?

The only time you need a memory card is when you plan on transferring data from an old memory card and even then you need an adapter. On the hard drive you can create a PS1/PS2 memory area.

3. Are they well made? They cost too much to have to get more than one. I've never had problems with my ps1 but all my friend's ps2s are messed up in some way.

Pretty well made. Some launch models have some problems but I got a refurbished one and it's working fine with no problem. Others are reporting great success as well.

Depends on what you want. If you just want a Blu-ray player and play PS3 games, 40gb is perfect. 40gb doesn't play PS2 games.

80gb is perfect if you plan on downloading a lot of stuff like movies, music, games, but not the best if you want to play PS2/PSX games.

60gb is the BEST in my opinion. Lots of space, 100% backwards compatibility. Only bad thing about this is it's discontinued so you can only find it refurbished/used.

20gb is the same as the 60gb. I can't remember if it has wifi or not but it's just  smaller version of the 60gb. Only available used now.

I love my 60gb. At first I hated the PS3 as a system and the marketing for it sucks, but an opportunity opened. I had store credit, a gift card, and I get employee discount and ended up getting a $430 used system for $130. Games are pretty fun. I love Heavenly Sword and Folklore.

Definitely worth getting if you can get a good deal or find one.

Wow, that is a great deal. At first I hated the system (the price of both the X and ps3 really pissed me off) but Im interested in some of the games(Folklore, Final Fantasy, RE 5) And there are a ton of PS2 games I want to play (and ps1 cause my memory card is full) but issues with the system made me not want it.

Thanks a lot for the info, that really answered all my questions. I'll do some research on the patches i'd need for the 80gb and then I'll go get one.
Thanks again.

I'm probably getting a PS3 pretty soon but I'm just wondering, are there any crazy problems with it like the 360 has the Red Ring crap? Just so I know before I get one
What a horrible night to have a curse!

There were at launch. There was about a 4/10 return rate with the systems within a couple months. Any systems that were returned are now refurbished though, and updated systems have been put out since then, so you shouldn't have a problem.

Just make sure to keep your firmware updated. You can update it via internet or through an outside source (never tried the outside source though myself)

Wow that's pretty shitty, sony no longer makes the PS3 100% backwards compatible? If that's the case I'll never be getting one unless an awesome game comes out that I must have and I can find an old one used.

No... she just said the 40gb wasn't not that sony isn't making any that are backwards compatible anymore.

No, he's complaining about complete backwards compatibility.

Most games are backwards compatible. Definitely your popular titles are gonna be. I dunno if there's a list online or somethin that has a compatibility list.

Honestly it is a good buy. I couldnt pass up the deal on my ps3. My walmart had a deal to get the 80 gig ps3 and get 10 bluray movies for free. Plus with my discount I didnt fork over much at all.
Sadly I cant play anything at 720p yet because of my older tv. Though I still laughed that the games looked better without any hidef compared to most my games on the 360 with hidef.

Heh heh, yeah...
http://www.gamespot.com/features/6162742/p-8.html
"The Xbox 360 had better graphics in almost all the games we examined. The 360's biggest victories were in Madden 07 and Fight Night Round 3, where the differences in texture detail and lighting stood out in our comparison shots. We couldn't capture this in the screenshots, but the Xbox 360 games generally offered better framerates too."

But more on subject, I'll probably get one eventually myself, once theres more of a pricedrop.  I want MGS4 and Drake, but I don't want to pay $400 for a system that has mostly games I can buy with my 360 already, and at generally higher quality.

There is a list of games on sony's site but you have to search the title individually. The descriptions tell you how it works on the system. Most are fine but some had problems with FMVs. Anyone know why any game would have problems playing on it? I just don't get it.

Ok, that is one source.  Want me to go find 10 that say otherwise?  Seriously, it would take minutes.

That's what you should have done in the first place.  don't make such a claim if you can't back it up.
If you want to show sources, though, keep this at PM, becuase this really doesn't have anything to do with the topic.  I just can't let an unsupported claim like that go unchallenged, becuase it doesn't accurately represent the power of the system being discussed in this thread.
Also, how exactly do you expect to back up the claim that 480i PS3 looks better than 720p 360...
