Topic.  And just to clarify, 2-D refers strictly to the style of gameplay.  The actual graphics could be 2.5-D or Hi-Res Sprites.  The format could be ClassicVania, MetroidVania, or maybe even something entirely new.  This is your imagination, your standards, and your ideal.  How much are you willing to pay for QUALITY?

Quality is absolutely objective. I think the visual quality would have less to do with it and more about the core mechanics the game is founded on. For example, Order of Ecclesia reuses materials from other games, but the core foundation and structure of the game is quite solid.

I'm not even sure if I can answer this. Quality is fun, and if the game is full of fun, I'm willing to pay the suggested retail price. I'm very simple.

Price will only depend on the console on which the game is released.

Not paying more than 45 for a 2D game.

Price will only depend on the console on which the game is released.

This all about your personal ideals.  If you have a favorite console, let your imagination run with it.

I would gladly pay 60, if it lasts 40hrs and it's completely awesome (the best case escenario)
Make it less than 30hrs and forget about it.

Everything comes full circle

I voted 60+ but let me be clear. Castlevania is the ONLY game I would spend that kind of money on (I've only played one or two games this whole generation that I thought were worth full price). It would have to be made in the old-school style with the old timeline (I would also accept 3d but it would have to be done well [I know that wasn't part of the poll but I'm just throwing that out there]). I have a lot of personal preferences (Alucard starring SotN-esque sequel). But anything in the old timeline at this point. I've been waiting since OoE.

I can't vote.

Insufficient data. Where this game will be released? What this will be?
Because if this game will be released for the console I don't have - I will not buy it at all.

Not paying more than 45 for a 2D game.

so no 2D game could ever possibly be worth more than $45 to you, correct?

I'd like to say I'd only pay a certain amount out of principle, but I'll be totally honest and say that I'd probably buy a Castlevania game at any price.

But also, that's knowing that, realistically, Konami would probably never come out with a 2D game for more than $20 tops. Although I'd love to see a 2D game that matches a full retail release in terms of content and length, it's really hard to imagine.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

A good game is a good game. I don't make distinction between 2D and 3D where that's concerned. I've played many 2D games that I feel are better than many 3D games I've played, and I've played many 3D games that are better than many 2D games I've played.

I'm willing to pay full, regular price for a good game, relative to whatever platform it's on.

so no 2D game could ever possibly be worth more than $45 to you, correct?

I also feel it's strange to see something like that written on a Castlevania forum, of all places. This mentality that 2D needs to sit in the back of the bus, as though it's Rosa Parks, is very weird to me, especially seeing it at a place like this. Like, it's not worth as much as 3D, or it has to meet some special distinct criteria to be worth as much as any 3D game : /

well, right, exactly. though i was going to withhold my opinion and just let him answer the question first.

but the economic basis behind a statement like "i wouldn't pay more than $X for Y" suggests that one is capping the value of Y at $X. which is fine; one is entitled to one's opinion. but i wanted to establish that first, and i'm curious why.

This is too easy.

I would easily pay up 60+ bones for a new 2D castlevania. Hell, I 'd probably dish out over $100 because-
i)It's been too damn long since a "new" "quality" 2D castlevania came out (harmony of despair doesn't count as "new" or "quality" for me)
ii)I'm a raging castlevania fan, i just throw my money at Konami when a new castlevania title comes out (excluding harmony of despair)
iii)A castlevania game that "exceeds my expectations" would probably be considered the greatest game of all time in my book

Honestly, if all votes aren't for the $60+ option how can we even call ourselves a castlevania fan forum?

I'm interested in this.

I'd definately be willing to pay over $60, however there are still a lot of other factors besides quality that would determine whether I'd pick up a well made 2D castlevania.
