The only two things in this game that good are graphics and music (to a certain extent). Gameplay is awful. Slowdown non-stop and collision issues. And all this is in the game which almost on 70% consist from platforming!! Which means making accurate jumps is very important thing, but it is hard to do because you can't calculate your speed due to the slowdown, little to no animation and sometimes wacky collisions. I said it already - it's as if game engine and actual level design were created separately from each other. It's really strange issue, but this game is just plain bad.
You can get used to it and even enjoy this game to some extent, but what for, when there are many other games in the series that did everything right?

P.S.
It is should be called "Castlevania: The Slowdown".

What's the reasoning in putting this game out?
Konami is like conspiring against EVERYTHING it's making.

Really.

I assume because it's not really all that available, and because they put out Rebirth fairly recently. I don't think it's some sort of anti-2D conspiracy or anything.

i'd buy this "again" out of lazyness, i dont want to haul around my GBA and cartridge collection if i have my 3DS handy.  i like to be able to play it on a whim.

plus, with an emulator and no password system, you can save your progress.  doesn't this game get "harder" after every playthrough?  see how far you can go.

of course, i prefer a castlevania game with all its trimmings, but i can appreciate a minimalist game.

I'd be more OK with Game Boy Virtual Console games if they didn't cost as much as they do and if you could get sharp graphics at full screen—but the only way to get sharp graphics is to play the games in their native resolution, which is really quite small on the 3DS screen.

That said, I'll buy awesome GB games I don't already own. But since I have the Adventure cart and can play it on a larger screen (my GBA SP+), I've no reason to get this. But I think it's super cool that Konami's releasing it. Can't see why people would be complaining about that.

And the game kicks ass, so all you ninnies...eat my sweaty butt crack. :o

All this talk about CVtA & CVtAR is inspiring me to consider making a GB style ReBirth when Theo's CV3 engine is complete.

Konami needs to quit with the 3ds, its bad enough they can't even do MGS3 right on it (low res and HORRIBLE frame rate) and now this shit?

I'll Just buy a Vita, download Dracula X chronicles and play it bilinear filtering because that's about as much enjoyment I'll ever get with konami's handhelds this gen.

If you are apprecaite shitty games it doesn't mean that everyone around you should do the same.
Oh, and it's not neccessary to insult other people for their opinion.

And by the way, I already can complete this game without loosing a single life, but it doesn't make the game better. I just get used to it general shittiness.

That's right. Know your place, Riduwhatever!

(And before Sumac gets all upset over these posts, I'm only ever clowning around. I don't seriously tell people to eat my sweaty crack when they disagree with me. I thought that was clearly quite comical...)
