Topic: Is it safe to have a real Castle Keep staircase at home?

By that, I mean, with the big staircase floating outside to a second floor part of your home or something. I think it can be done in public buildings, so..

What do you think will architects say when I want exactly what Drac has in his castle in my private home?

The only thing I have done so far for real is imitating the Ghostly Theatre. (which was kinda easy..)

Well, first, you get a cookie, a cake, and a bowl of ice cream for imitating the Ghostly Theatre. That is just brilliant!

As for the staircase idea, I can't say I'm sure that'll work.

Can you sketch it out perhaps (even roughly) so we can get an idea?

Haha!! good idea. all you'd have to do is press down+jump to make a quick exit to the ground. and for keepin out unwanteds just hide the key in a floating candle.

Yeah, there is likely a building code that would require you to have railings of a certain height.

I thought you meant you were going to have a tower just floating out, not a stairway from one house to another, that's not a problem. But if you put a stairway fromyour house and then had another small floating room, that's impossible, without steel supports. Still, if it weighs a lot less than the rest of your house, it should be possible.

You mean the staircase?, as long as he makes it out of really dense materials and has it structurally tested he should be okay.

There are usually support pillars or studs that run along underneath the stairs and certain points for support. I don't know how long this needs to go ,but if it isn't very far you could get away with regular boards (I think 10X 16 type)like the kind used for joists and roofing or steel but it would cost quite a bit. If not...perhaps an arc underneath for support though im not sure if it would still count as a "floating" staircase.

Thanks for the tips guys. One of my neighbors said that if the staircase is only about 2-3 meters, it would be fine without any support from below (which is my goal, Drac's staircase doesn't have support), but the length between our store from below to our 3rd floor (main home) is actually 11 meters.

lol I have no intentions of creating a floating structure, it would be dangerous! All I really want is to recreate the staircase faithfully. Again, thanks for the comments!
