Question about Simon's SCIV sprite...

I dunno if this has been discussed or not, but...

Is Simon wearing pants in Super Castlevania IV in his sprite, or does he just have some massive legs? I really can't tell. I've told myself that they're pants since they're much bigger than his arms, but he doesn't wear pants on the cover-art, and the two outfits are pretty close together...

So is he or is he not?

Hot pants, maybe. But nope, he's just got really beefy legs.

Maybe he's a fanatical cyclist in when he's not massacring dark legions?

Maybe he rides a bike to get to Drac's castle, since he can't afford gas... The prices on gas have skyrocketed...

In the cover art for the Japanese version, he has some really short shorts underneath those hip flap things. At least it's not straight up underwear, like this painting, the one that the original Castlevania's cover art likely borrowed from.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

WHOA. That is sweet! I've never seen that painting before. O:

I can totally see Simon's CV1 pose in it. (Lemme guess, all of you have seen the painting already, haven't you?)

Anyway, I wasn't really sure what to believe on Simon in SCIV, since it's not uncommon for a character's sprite to not match up with their artwork in this series.

Aside from colors, that's actually not the case here;

NO PANTS. All leg.

If I had to climb as many staircases as the Belmonts have over the years, I would have some strong gams as well.
Simon and Christopher should also have some mean looking arms, since they climb ropes or swing with the whip.  That takes major upper body strength.

Belmont thighs in a leather skirt are iconic, my friends. Add in the whip and the calf-highs and we are in business :D pants are for suckers. Like Drac.

It may seem to some that Simon is wearing pants, but after working with the sprite a little I can assure you those are his bare-bone legs. Simon was never one to wear pants. The only time he did cover up his legs was in CVII and that was because his body was decaying on him due to Dracula's curse. And the sprite itself matches both the US & Japanese boxart quite faithfully.

Of course it does. Underwear just slows you down when you're traversing Transylvania. One less hindrance between you and teabagging a mummy, etc. That's just science.

When you have underwear, you're forced to fight Succubus. Has Simon ever had to actually fight Succubus?

Fishmen don't spit fire. They puke. They jump out of the water, catch a glimpse of Simon's package on the way up, then wretch.
