I didn't see one on here, so correct me if I've overlooked it.
So, let me start by asking who else is all cautiously optimistic over RE6? I have seen, heard & read good things about it so far & after RE5 kinda let me down (it was good, just felt way more like a rad action title than an RE), I'm feeling good about it. I am SUPER HYPED (oh, Two Best Friends Play, you have planted the word 'hyped' indelibly into my vocabulary) that zombies are back. When I saw you could walk while shooting, crawl, sprint, dodge, melee? MIND = BLAMMO! I can't wait to download the demo on Sept. 18th & get a hands on preview of it.
It's always good to see more people who watch TBFP.
I'm still kind of ambivalent about RE6. I'm not really counting on it to scratch the itch left by the first three games at all, but it does look like a lot of fun. I've still got some problems with it, but despite its flaws RE5 was a terrific co-op game, just not a great RE game, which is more or less what I expect with this one.
I know I shouldn't care too much about plot in a RE game, but from what I've seen of RE6, why in God's name does Leon shudder at lightning, for chrissakes, he's been through how many horrific monster outbreaks? And why is it in one scene he rushes to help some doomed university students but in another he wants to abandon a wounded woman because "she'll just slow us down"? Inconsistencies across different game plots I can understand but in one game, with one character? That's pretty fucking bad writing even by Capcpom standards.
I'm kinda lukewarm about the whole series at this point. RE0~3 + Code Veonica are the series to me. RE4 & RE5 were not even remotely horrifying to me. It's all become to actiony with it's overpowered, unrealistic characters. The Movie series really turned me off too. Plus I believe the approach they took with Silent Hill really eclipsed RE in my eyes.
In the same boat more or less here, dood. Though I wasn't terribly fond of Code Veronica (fucking Steve ruined that game for me) or Zero (REmake but not nearly as good or as scary). I loved the shit out of RE4 just because it was a superbly crafted game (and parts of it did actually scare me), but RE5 was sort of in the same situation as Zero in that it's worse for trying to ride on its predecessors' coattails. What really pissed me off was Capcom advertising all these cool subsystems in 5 like dehydration, hallucinations, and a mixture of dark, claustrophobic areas with the open way-too-bright desert areas, and then we got... well, RE4 but with co-op and stupider.
I didn't really mind the movies before when they were doing their own thing, but now the kung-fu matrix knockoff shit is bleeding way too much into the games. With most of RE5, I honestly wouldn't be able to tell if it was RE if there weren't any monsters.
Its like in Dino Crisis, very cool, the only bad part about this game is the partners AI, even a person that never played a RE game plays better than that, if they find a rocket launcher, they will try to use that in the first enemy that they see, even if its a common zombie. Since the servers are OFF by years this are the only choice lol
Oh dear God, I remember playing some of Outbreak 1. Great idea that was released a couple years too soon to be really good. I would love it if Capcom bundled these together on Vita or 3DS; that way you could play locally with friends and not have to depend on servers for playing it the way it was meant to be.
Jesus, the AI made me want to snap the disc in half. I remember this exchange between that subway operator guy (Jim something?) and the guy I picked (the Vietnam vet who always says "I'm gettin' too old for this"):
Guy: *running in circles* HELP ME! HELP ME! OH GOD SOMEBODY PLEASE!
Me: Come here!
Guy: No. *continues to run in circles* HELP! HELP! OH GOD PLEASE HELP!
