General Skyrim Discussion

This is a thread to discuss Skyrim.  No complaining about Dawnguard not being out for PS3 yet.  Bethesda has called in Sony for help fixing whatever the issue is and when there is a development, it will be announced.

Now with that said, let's discuss Skyrim:  Your likes, Your dislikes, etc.

Personally, I love the game.  The graphics are top of the line and the controls are solid.  I like how you can toggle between first and third person to suit your needs and preferences.  I just have three dislikes:

1) Most of the dungeons are crypts that look like copy and paste rooms with the same generic enemies.
2) Most crypts and caves are very dark and to really see effectively you need to either use the candlelight spell which takes up one hand, be a khajit and use night eye, or become a vampire and use vampire's sight.
3) The destruction spells don't seem to be that strong.

Numbers 1 and 2 are self explanatory, but number 3 needs some explaining.  I normally love to use magic in video games, but the spells in this game don't seem to do that much damage at higher levels.  Not to mention I prefer to use concentration spells and they are subpar in this game.  Even the projectile spells seem somewhat weak to me.  With a maxed out character (level 81) with both ranks of augmented flames, the spell incinerate doesn't seem to do much damage to enemies.  Yet despite the fact that I have the maximum magic resistance, most mage enemies do massive damage to me.  Not to mention, that unlike weapon skills, the damage inflicted by spells doesn't increase with the skill level.  When your skill with one handed weapons improves, you deal more damage with one handed weapons.  When you destruction skill improves, the damage dealt by destructions spells doesn't increase.  Instead the magicka cost simply decreases.  Not to mention that the armsman perk for one handed weapons increases your one-handed weapon damage by 100% when all 5 ranks are spent.  With destruction magic, the Augmented Flames perk only increases the fire damage you do by 50%.  Shouldn't the damage dealt by weapons and magic be equal?  I think so.

Love Skyrim. Nothing like sinking 60 hours into the game, killing anything that comes along my path and still haven't talked to the Greybeards.

I should probably get back to beating it some time...

If I have one complaint it's probably how "same" the dungeons all seem to be, or at least they're super predictable.

Skyrim is an awesome game that I only got into three months ago. While the graphics are top-notch the mod makers over at the steam website have made their own personal graphical improvements which makes the game even more pretty to look at. The generic dungeons and caves do get on ones nerves at times and ES IV: Oblivion suffers from this repetitiveness as well. I'm the sort of person whom doesn't use magic as I prefer blades and bows over sorcery. Although I'll admit the dragon shouts are an attractive feature to my fighters, but the only shout I end up ever using is the one you first start out with. Crafting your own armor and upgrading it is a first time for this series and I find it adds a whole new dimension to the game that didn't exist before. The character models are also vastly improved over the ones from Oblivion and Morrowind. Although Skyrim's a little more limited with certain character features then Oblivion was (like hair color and hair length).

-UPDATE-

just thought I'd throw these in here. I found them hella entertaining. Enjoy :D

Indeed, its'a great game. I've put in 150 hours. I plan of restarting though.. but I might beat it first.

You guys try ENB on it? I'm using Unbleak, but I'm trying to find out how to heighten the depth of view because it's too much at it's setting.

At least half of the scenes are mods which is why it makes them so damned funny  ;D others things like voice-overs are also thrown in there too. The first time I saw it all I almost busted a gut.

WHAT HAVE I DONE?!?!?!

I started playing Skyrim again...I think my life is ruined! Curse your Steam and your cloud saves! Now I can continue playing my original character on my new rig! Also, new DLC FTW!

So, someone mentioned ENBs earlier, I'm currently running Sharpshooter's A Realistic Hope http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9936 and enjoying the fresh coat of paint on my Skyrim.

What other mods are other people running? I've found some other lore friendly mods that really enhance the experience for me, like Cloaks of Skyrim, Winter Is Coming, Wearable Lanterns, Bags and Bandoliers, etc. I try to stay away from super overpowered items and mods like that, but I really couldn't help myself from getting Guts' Dragonslayer from Berserk... >_<

I found it a good game, but it promised more when it started.
It's an excellent title, but Twilight Princess was the perfect Zelda for me.
Now I'm tired, eternally walking... forever dying, and never stopping. I feel in sorrow, all I see is white. I’m following a blind way beneath a sad sky.

It's Fun, but It's no TES game.
It's Runescape with Drastically better Graphics, Search your feelings and it'll be true.

Well, the last TES game was Daggerfall if you want to be nitpicky about it. :P

Also, wtf, Dragonborn DLC comes out for PC in what, 4 days? FFFFFFFF

I know. It's about time.  And, as an apology for the long wait, we get a 50% discount the first week of each release.  I never thought we'd get a discount.

So my friend had me make a character and play it on his PC for a little bit to see what I thought.

So, I went through the intro, dragon attacking everyone and all that... escaped with whatsisface, and got myself two swords. One in each hand. FUCK YEAH.

So, as we fought some enemies, I wondered what would happen if I attacked the guy, over and over, and he didnt do shit, and I realized that he's invincible!

and lo and behold, I found a cheap, effective way to level up before starting the game proper, by constantly attacking the dude. Fun shit, till we exited the cave and once there he actually started to fight back when I hit him, but stayed invincible.

Oh man that shit was fun. Got to like, level 10 before even fighting the bear.
Laura and Gabriel arrive in the deepest cave of the castle and... they find IGA.
