Hey...anyone remember that Double Dragon II remake??

The one they announced like 2 years ago, only for it to vanish into thin air, never to be heard from again? Eh...it just came out.

I don't think anyone was actually anticipating it, and the general consensus is that it sucks pretty hard, but I bought the damn thing anyway. I'm a sucker for the series.  :-[

I actually kind of enjoy it, though. So far. I'm only about a third into it, though. No, it's definitely not as good as Double Dragon Neon, although I can appreciate that this one sticks to the source material much closer than Neon did. It kind of plays like a cross between a crappy version of Neon, and Fighting Force (for better or worse).

My mind is just scrambled right now. I thought this thing was scrapped completely in favor of just releasing Neon instead, or something. But then again, the franchise has had somewhat of a (lackluster) resurgence, with the iOS game and the one for that weird Zeebo console.

It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

I was under the impression it was cancelled. Totally wasn't expecting this. I was kind of excited about it at some point, but the more I looked at the gameplay videos, I thought better for it to fade away and not be released.

But I, too, am a Dragon fanatic, so I think I'll get it. Maybe I'm a sucker but who cares. Even if it's bad, at least it'll try to be more serious in tone. Though DD Neon is enjoyable, it's not how I want DD to remain as a series.

It would actually be possible to reboot the series as a dark-toned martial arts game instead of just a goofy dinosaur from the 80's.

Just beat the game...it really started getting irritating after a while. The regular Abobo/O'Hara enemies become annoying, since they block a lot of your hits, inflict a ton of damage, and swarm you relentlessly when you're on the ground. There's no real good way to avoid being crowded by enemies, and it takes forever to turn around, leaving you open to hits from behind constantly (unless you've mastered perfect guard, but it's still tricky in crowds). The jump over the toxic pit at the start of one of the middle missions is just bizarre and confusing, and the camera shifts guarantee you'll fall to your death a fair handful of times before figuring it out.

I did like parts of the presentation, though. Enemies from both the arcade and NES versions were represented well. The boss hideout and the portrayal of Willy are both pretty cool. I kind of appreciated the attempt to give more detail to the original story. I liked how they sort of explained the origin of the final boss, although

Oh well. I could see myself trying to play it again one of these days. Definitely not for anyone who isn't a big Double Dragon fan, unfortunately.

...but! I just recently found out that the iPhone Double Dragon was ported to Android. Woohoo! I've been playing the hell out of that one lately.

Why is there so much Engrish?

Is that what's hip in the streets these days?
