Topic: Question about Wii U's.

Hey, cool. I wonder if my years of bickering about it on Club Nintendo surveys paid off. ;p I noticed the off-TV play had the correct aspect ratio, didn't notice it was that way on the TV also (since I turned it off).

It's actually my favorite new feature. It wasn't so much of a problem on the original Wii, since it used AV cables, and I could push a button on my TV remote to fix the aspect ratio when playing certain games. On the Wii U though, using an HDMI cable, I don't have that option. If I wanted to play the game correctly, I had to go the the Wii U menu, change the screen size, exit that, start Wii mode, and play my games. Then if I wanted to switch back, I'd have to go through it all over again. It ultimately kept me from playing virtual console games after I moved them to the Wii U. But now, that's not a problem! I can play my games again, with no hassle!

Coolbeans, yo. My TV has a "4:3 HD" option for HDMI. It's largely useless, but I was using that for Wii VC games since it squeezes down the full 16:9 image and looks fine.

Gotta see how the update aspect ratio compares (since 4:3 HD is no longer an option, lol--it would just make the image longer vertically).

Tested. Looks pretty spiffy, though as I feared, it doesn't fill up the screen the way 4:3 HD did. Now, there's a big gap of black at the bottom, even when I set my TV from Native (no overscan) to Natural (slightly zoomed). The games are scaled slightly smaller than the Wii U VC titles, resulting in the gap being on the GamePad as well.

Ah well, it ain't perfect, but it's still awesome. At least Wii VC games can finally be output in their proper ratio.

I just got a wii-u last week. Zelda edition rocks I always get a nintendo system regardless of my complaints with them. SO with that any of you down to get dirty when smash bros come out or that online battle race mode when Mighty no.9 comes out?
