I personally have mixed feelings toward this, I honestly cannot form a positive nor a negative opinion just yet...

except, Knuckles what did they do to you?

From what I've heard, it's more of an alternate universe thing instead of a complete reboot.
As for the redesigns, two words: Naughty Dog.
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.

It doesn't really look all that different to me.

Personally, I'd like to see how this goes. I mean, it can't possibly be worse than Sonic '06... can it?

I mean aside from Roid Knux...which is no worse than lolrealistic Eggman, IMO.
Besides that, it doesn't seem to be going for lolsrsbsnss either, nor is it as radically different as lawds or tameem may cry.

A Sonic game reboot based on a Sonic CGI cartoon based on the failed 3D reboot of an originally 2D game series... But it has a pun in the name, so that makes everything right! Haha! Just what we needed.

Yes, it is Sonic again. The one series that drives itself deeper into its hole every single time it tries to "reinvent itself".
Remember the last time you we found laser-wielding, futuristic mech robots in Sonic? Remember the last time Sega threw three-dimensional, first-person combat into the franchise? Remember how badly that turned out?

And no -- turning Knucles into a penguin won't help. I can guarantee it.

Knuckles's new look is very distracting in a bad way. He's so out of proportion compared to the rest of the cast. Hopefully it's just his alpha look that they will change later on in development. Knuckles doesn't need to look strong in order to prove his strength as he has already done so in past titles.

Bad News, Sega is already Launching a 52 Episode CG Cartoon and Apparently tons of merchandise along with it.
I just hope the game and Show are good at least....

For Character Designs...

Honestly, the over-use of Bandage wrap is a tad distracting...
Knuckles should be a tad shorter, and have a more toned slim, Batman like Muscles instead of something closer to Bane
The Rest Don't look too bad, Tails is actually very good, and the Sonic design Isn't too foreign from his modern design.
Amy's Design isn't bad, but doesn't really try to resemble her personality like the other 3....

Game-wise I think SEGA is going for a Sonic Heroes style game, Story wise I think they are trying out the Archie route with the freedom fighters...

I can give it a chance, but please re-proportion Knuckles, he kinda comes off as the Nice Dumb Muscle, Kinda like the Gorons from Zelda's N64 era

guys guys
While they may be pushing it now, I don't think it'll be actually replacing the original canon. It'll most likely be an Archie's kind of deal. So yeah, if you guys really don't like it that much then you can safely ignore it. It's not the end of Sonic yet, jeez.

...Wait, dev says Sonic Boom gameplay will be more combat oriented than ever before... Welp, if this ends up anything like night-time Unleashed, like I said, I can ignore it. Safely.

"How can we get kids to like Sonic again...? I know! Let's have him look a little different and talk way too fucking much!"

I mean, it's the same voice actors, the same kind of stuff being done... what's even the point of redesigning them?

The idea of a more open world Sonic sounds okay. The focus on "strong combat and narrative" will likely end in unintentionally hilarious disaster, just as it has every other time Sega's tried this.
