It would be great to at least fill in the 500 year gap when Dracula "died" and his "resurrection", then again MS said they aren't working with Konami anymore.

Wait, so does that mean Cox's proposed Contra reboot will be handled by someone else?

I don't see how this thread is anything but flamebait.

Falsely premised flamebait at that.
I don't flamebait, I write what's on my mind. I'd come up with it up fairly quickly, so the message might not have been understood the way I'd hoped, but I haven't seen any particularly inflamed replies, either. So no harm done.

Wasn't MS's next project backed by Konami? Or did I get my facts mixed up again?

No, the way I understand it, MS isn't working on CV anymore. That doesn't mean that they aren't working on another franchise owned by Konami. Could be Metal Gear, Contra, etc. Who knows?

Cox has confirmed that he and MercurySteam have moved on to another Konami franchise. I'm pretty sure the project was greenlit before LoS2 saw release, but don't quote me on that. It's highly likely to be Contra, given Cox's mentioning that it is the series that he would like to work on next.

As for Castlevania, I remember Bergeron saying that the next project was in the hands of Konami Japan, and that they expressed interest in doing another game within the Lords of Shadow universe. Whether that comes to fruition, or whether that means that the next game will be internal or outsourced are other things entirely. I'd be fine with getting some more Lords of Shadow Belmont stories, since there's plenty of room for them and I don't think the main trilogy exploited that potential enough. With IGAs departure, I doubt the old canon is coming back, as he was it's main architect, or that the new timeline is going away within the next game or so. I venture that we'll either get a new reboot, which may come off as gratuitous depending on how they do it, or they'll stick with LoS to present some series consistency for the new fans.

Or they'll drop it entirely, but Torashiro (a Konami insider from Neogaf) said that, in his eyes, Castlevania is doing better rather than worse, so I don't think that'll be the case.

Man, I kind of hope not. I think they shot themselves in the foot with making the Lords series a trilogy, much like how IGA came to realize that he shot himself in the foot with the timeline- it limits them too much. There's a chance a lot of people will be confused by yet another new rebooted series, especially in such a short time since LoS2.

Though on second thought, I guess they could go the KCEK or latter-day IGA route - make self-contained gaiden titles. Just toss in Carlyle's Gabula as the constant character and there you go.

There is always the time-travelling, alternate universes shenanigans to retcon and extend the series.

I'm sure someone will come in and slap me with a "TIME TRAVELING HAS ALWAYS BEEN PART OF CASTLEVANIA", to which I will respond, no, no it hasn't, but I would really prefer to not have any more time traveling stuff.

The next Castlevania will most likely be either a continuation of the LOS saga or another reboot. Going back to the original timeline will just cause confusion, even more so now that the figurehead(s) of those games are all gone. Either way it goes, the old timeline will be as good as retconned, or be know as "Canon 1".

Stop Watch begs to differ. :P :P :P :P :P
Thankfully you, e105beta, do not represent the general populace's opinion.
You also seem to be the only one implying flamebait thread.  I frankly don't see it.  At least not yet.

I'd like to see Aeon and St.Germain do something to clean up the timeline, but that's just me.  With IGA gone, those characters are not likely to get fleshed out.

It is more likely that we'll get a Konami of Japan-handled version within the LoS universe, but dealing with other characters, perhaps in an attempt to bring Dracula back and Alucard having to stop them.  There are centuries of unaccounted time for Alucard to be up and about, preventing any resurrection of his father until Satan's Followers have enough power to bring him to Earth in LoS2.  Somewhere amongst that amount of time would be where any new game would take place.

Sooo... Alucard and a Belmont Descendant team up to prevent Gabula from rising, with perhaps some help from Zobek, who is also alive.

Stopping time is an entirely different concept from time travel.

Relax, there's only been time travellers in two games, and specifically in Judgment it was just an excuse to have all the characters together at the same time.
