I got it on Steam, and it is amazing. The Kotaku review of it pretty much sums up anything I'd say. The soundtrack is crazy good, too.

Downloaded this for my 2DS last night and it was fun to get into! When I get home from work today I'll fire that thing up again and have another round.  :D

Just played it. Alot.

It's awesome beyond words. The platforming is spot on. The bosses are a little megaman-ish though, with their acrobatics and near undodgeable attacks. But it's a REALLY good game.

The music is incredible.

The game as a ton of secrets to find, and side little things to do, like enemies popping up on the map screen to fight you.

It's worth the buy, without a shadow of doubt.

It feels like Megaman, Castlevania, SMB3, Ducktales... man, it's freaking amazing.

For the question of the better version, get all of them if you can. 3DS has the best use of 3D I've seen so far (and I fucking HATE 3D gimmick) and a streepass arena, Wii U got a message system like Dark Souls and PC will have local multiplayer. So having multiple versions for this game isn't that bad.

It's really, REALLY good! I backed the Kickstarter, hence was one of the lucky ones that got the game a day early! It really taps into that classic spirit of old school gaming that are lost in many of the newer "retro styled" indie games. I read an article where Yacht Club Games said they approached this game as if the NES was still in season, hence aimed to push it to it's limits while utilizing programming "tricks of the trade" to get the most out of it(they mentioned one of those tricks was the same one used to create Mega Man's sprite, where to get the most colors, they used a separate sprite for the face and pasted it over the body's sprite). In a way, being dedicated to that style while respecting the limitation is worth major praise.

Spectre Knight: Eat your heart out, Death!
The battle was intense.

I love it how you think you can get the pattern down for some of these bosses, but then they switch it up and perform their moves in other orders. It throws you off. It's not like Mega Man where, more or less, pattern is everything(as well as using the right weapon). The key to this game is, with bosses and platforming, stay on your toes. Be ready to react when you see the first split-second sign of a certain danger coming at you.

Gahd...DAMN, did that give me chills!  & there's a Slogra-like wizard thing...and a Death-like thing, and a Gobanz-like thing, and a gigantic Simon-swinging-like thing...and VIRT DID THE MUSIC, AND MADE BOTH ALBUMS AVAILABLE FOR PAY-WHAT-YOU-WANT!

This is great.

& there's a Slogra-like wizard thing...

Kinda does too. Although it's really a plague mask he wears. Learned about that bit of history on that while visiting Venice on my cruise. I finished the game yesterday and Jesus was I swearing up a storm! I think Shovel Knight had more pits then all the original Mega Man games combined. And it was those pits that were the primary focus of me dying every single time. It's as if the game was designed to have you killed, not by the enemies but by the pits. Enemies knock you into the pits, you fall into a pit, get hit with a projectile and you go down into a pit, the wind blows you into a pit, pit this, pit that, pits everywhere! Gauh!! Enough with the damnable pits!! I swear nobody would build an airship with that many holes in it.

Finally got that off my chest, LOL!
