So far the only bonus feature revealed is full English VA. Fan reaction seems to be rather divided as of now. Funding is handled through PayPal.
It is precisely because it never cared, that people do care.  It's something which it's lacking, because that which it has, it has lackluster of.

Then Lords of Shadow 2 just takes a big, semi-solid, smelly, pea-green dump all over everything.

4 million already and they're now asking for more? Seriously? Shovel Knight only needed $300,000. Also I've no idea why they've been teasing a cartoon series, too. They're acting like the game has been out and been a roaring success. I mean I hope the game does well, but they're jumping the gun a bit.

They're adding stuff though with the money. It's not like they need more to complete the current project. It also allows more people to get early access to the beta.

I find myself not caring. If they really wanted to, they could probably throw all that new shit in with their current funding. I'd rather wait and see if the game is actually fun, because even with Inafune as producer, Mega Man games kinda blew dick—never did think the PlayStation games were any good (outside of the Legends series, which is all right).

Buzzkill....

I personally don't care for a full english voice cast... only mm game I remember, was pretty bad, in terms of voice acting. MMX4, of course. Love the game otherwise. If they do get that full english cast, they better not make it the only option.

Skullgirls only needed 4k for voice acting, WTF is this shit? No-one has even seen 5 mins of gameplay or enough to determine if the game is good or not and Inafune is already asking for more money. I'm sorry but this is a huge red flag in my book.

Meh it sounds a little silly to me but if people want to fund it whatever. Personally I don't think I've ever pre-purchased a game and I definitely wouldn't pre-purchase and THEN pay to fund extra English voice acting in a 2D action platformer.

Maverick Hunter X and X8 had some pretty good voice acting. Not the best, but it's pretty good. Particularly Zero and Vile (especially Sigma in X8).

If you want bad voice acting, look at X7. THAT was damn atrocious.

Skullgirls only needed 4k for voice acting, WTF is this shit?

Didn't Skullgirls have really minimalistic voice acting, though? Just like, a few win quotes, a few intro quotes, and then battle lines and stuff? They're basically adding in-game voices for Beck and Call, but if there's in-game dialog for story (which I'm betting there is), they're voicing that, too. And then there's the TV series (is that actually coming or was that just a pitch?). And then put that in both languages, and that's pretty hefty. They're probably not going to settle with just run-of-the-mill actors, so they need more money to be able to pay more high-quality actors.

Just my theory anyway.

I will agree they're jumping the gun, though. There's like, what, two/three gameplay videos out right now, and a handful of screenshots?

Claimh Solais gets it. That's basically spot on how it works. (Side note, the show isn't 100% greenlit, and the game and show budgets are not linked).

Not to mention they have to RE-create the scenes to work well with voice. Thats backtracking and more work than just adding a sound file playing every now and then. This could be new animation work, and new scripting work for two languages. That is if they want to do it right. On top of all this they have to re-schedule the whole thing mid development. Yeah, I can see it. It's probably rounded up a little, to allow for creative experimentation and unforeseen issues, but still. You want a high quality product right? You want it done right? That doesn't come cheap.

Compare that to Skullgirls where they inserted new sound effect files that happen to be recordings of people's voices, in a game where the fights already have sound effects playing. Not to mention full lines are considerably more expensive than a handful battle quips. You'll even need those as well for MN9, for the in game voices.

Game development isn't magic, or cheap. They are targetting April 2015 for release. The less your budget the less people you can hire, and the more work each person has to do, which takes a substantially larger amount of time. This is more and more true as games get more expensive to make, as player expectations are ever growing.
