It could be a parallel universe if they decide to make it Castlevania.
But really, please no. As i've said many times before, MS has the capability to make a new IP, might as well try it now.

Like most others, I really hope it's not a CV game.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't have fun with LoS2, but it didn't really work well at all for a CV game. Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I'm just ready to see someone else try their hand at the series. I do have serious doubts as to this being another LoS game, though.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

I did have fun with LOS2, the only bad thing for me was the story. I think that, even though what everyone thinks of the game, this story needs closure. I would like to see Gabriel and Alucard shed their vampire sides and fight them and the castle as humans, or the castle taking complete control over gabriel and trevor fight his father and the castle. Something I dunno, I just want that story to end right.

I knew it. After LoS' 2 critical and fan flop Mercury wouldn't be allowed to continue their dream game.. unless they get back Konami's goodwill.

Also, I for one don't think Alvarez will be on charge. He will be busy on their new IP, that's what he wanted all these years. If we're (semi) lucky the next Director will be Marquez OR a completely new guy.

Kojima better be supervising this time too.

Firstly, Kojima wasn't ever supervising anything on any of the LoS. They merely encouraged and lent technical support.

Secondly, thats reverse logic there. If the game flopped hard enough, they wouldn't be allowed to do another sequel, which is the opposite of Konami asking them to make up for it by making another sequel. They would be 'free' to pursue their dream game cause they'd likely not get another contract with Konami. LoS1's success may be still keeping them afloat here potentially, but we wont ever know.

You don't necessarily get the go ahead to do your dream project by pleasing a publisher. You usually do what the publisher wants you to do. Publishers want to do what will make the most money, which means follow on successful leads. LoS2 might not have failed to reach it's mark afterall, or LoS1's success made up for it a little, and they convinced Konami they'll do another like LoS1 again.

You're better off just backing Timespinner cause it's the closest thing to a Igavania game that we're getting for a long, long time.

- Exactly, I want him supervising EVERYTHING this time, as he's doing with Silent Hill. The funny thing is that Del Toro would fit Castlevania more than Silent Hills, but alas..

- Their new IP was already under development when LoS2 was out, perhaps Konami threatened to cut funds, Mercury went into panic mode and presented a new pitch that convinced Konami again to keep going under the promise of "saving" the franchise. I dunno. Castlevania has always some drama under it. Wait for it.

- I think LoS2 wasn't a financial flop, just a dissapointment, and a very dangerous one. The next Castlevania can't be anything short of AMAZING if they want the franchise to even exist.

You think wrong. The game sold under 100,000 in its first month. For a AAA release, that is a financial flop. If it did good at all, Konami would have put out press release after press release for the game. The only thing they ever stated about the game post-release was a release date for the DLC.

LoS2 did so poorly that if either one of these projects is backed by Konami, it had to have been a deal made before LoS2 released. The only game MercruySteam put out that did well was the first game of the trilogy; the other two were financial losses. This is why people are very worried the franchise is either going to be killed off or put on hiatus, because the game failed to meet any expectations from Konami.

If Marquez is in charge, I'll be interested. He knew what he was doing with Revelations, and although Mirror of Fate's story could use improvement it was still decent.

Unless it goes mobile. Forget that.
