While I do enjoy some classicvania on my Super Nintendo or nes, I must say that I also truly love playing castlevania on the gba and ds as well. I have only beaten aria of sorrow and portrait of ruin (beat that one tonight as a matter of fact) but I also own castlevania 2: Belmonts revenge, harmony of dissonance, and dawn of sorrow. While I did adore aria of sorrow more than harmony not just because of completing it but also because I felt the graphics and music were much better, but I feel that my favorite on the go castlevania game had to be portrait of ruin. The concept is very fresh, the gameplay had the best of both types of gameplay sometimes reverting back to classicvania mixing with metroidvania's exploration. The great things I can say about this was I absoloutley loved the warp stones. Being able to warp from one end of the castle to the opposite was not only a luxury but made the game feel less draggy. I loved that I didn't have to go from one end of the castle, trudging along just to pick up extra supplies. The graphics here are pretty amazing at times while sometimes some enemies look just as they looked in gba castlevanias. The music here was incredibly catchy, I but I really wish I could've heard some classic castlevania tunes here and there. One thing that I can say was awesome was fighting some bosses throwing back to the classic days like medusa and Frankenstein. Speaking of bosses, I found the final fight with death and Dracula to be INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT. Level 40 and accompanied with my trusty vampire killer, I just brushed by with killing his first form and then after taking with the 2nd, I was a tad disappointed he wasn't more difficult. Now don't get me wrong, Dracula and death are definitely the hardest bosses I've fought in the series and this fight shines as the hardest to me, but I found it a tad confusing to see his 2nd form easier than the first but hey that's just y 2 cents worth. All in all, I can safely say, this game is a gem, and among my favorite castlevania games to date. Hell, it's blows lords of shadow out of the water and this is just a ds game! But anyways what's your guys' favorite on the go castlevania games and why exactly?
