-Dragon Fighter NES
-Valis games
-Vice: Project Doom NES
-Splatterhouse games
-King of Demons SNES
-Demons Crest
-Dracula X
-CVLegends
-Ninja Gaiden 3 NES
-Run Saber SNES

After getting back into retro collecting I noticed just how ridiculous things have been getting lately, especially with the rare NES and generally good 16bit games.

I just want my old ALTTP back, purely for sentimental value. Other than this I already have all the games I want.

Oh, man.  There are so many games I could put on this list.  One of my local stores finally got a copy of Snatcher in on Sega CD.  I've been watching for Snatcher for decades, no exaggeration.  This store is charging $450 for it.  I need to pay bills and buy food, so that's not gonna happen.  And if I could afford that, I could also afford their copy of Keio Flying Squadron for $650.

Vice: Project Doom has been dropping in price for the past 6 months or so.  It's still somewhat pricey but not as bad as it used to be.  I'd also like to get the King of Demons, but I'll probably settle for a repro cart so that I can actually play the dang thing.

Anyway, the list:

Super Turrican 2 (SNES)
Space Megaforce (SNES)
Snatcher (Sega CD)
Keio Flying Squadron (Sega CD)
In the Hunt (PSX)
Towers 2 (Jaguar)
Worms (Jaguar)
Atari Karts (Jaguar)
Battlesphere (Jaguar)
Mars Matrix (Dreamcast)
Power Strike 2 (Game Gear)

Jesus, those are pricey! What's the deal with that store's policy with regards to classic games anyways? That seems a bit too steep in my opinion. Unless those games are actually signed by Hollywood superstars then I don't see the need for them to be that expensive.

Can't believe they just won't rerelease Snatcher. Idk if there are any legal issues involved, but do they know how high a demand there is?? It'd be a hit on digital.

I looked at Vice and just bought it, thanks for the info, man  ;)

I'm looking into repros, and damn, King of Demons, Demons Crest, not to mention hacks like Chorus of Mysteries and Evil Trevor for Dracula X. Also looking for Megaman Wily Wars. Btw, didn't know STurrican 2 was a rare game. I might get the first one on cart, its a wicked fun game

I agree, its just friggin crazy! But you look at NES games like Gun Nac that are like $150, and Dragon Fighter (seriously, one of the more underrated NES gems) for $120, you start to scratch your head. Then the rich resellers sometimes buy them in hordes to kinda monopolize.

Hate that I sold the Valis games, but have them shipping here soon, so NEVER sell games u less you truly don't want them.

I don't know why they're asking so much for Snatcher and Keio.  My guess is they're hoping some single young rich collector with money to burn will stop by and snatch (*snicker*) them up.  I know I don't mind paying more than a game is worth in order to support a small business, but I won't pay THAT much more.

...actually, I was checking Video Game Price Charting as I typed this, and I see those values actually aren't far off now.  Looking at the price history, it looks like both games have been fluctuating quite a bit in recent months.  When the store first got the games, I compared the prices to Price Charting and they were way overpriced.  But now the store's prices are actually lower than Price Charting's prices.  Maybe it's just a smart business decision to price them this way...?

I guess it's better for them. The retro store I go to usually has them priced $5 less than inline sellers. So I guess they buy them for way less than they're worth so they can price them lower and get them sold faster, cus I'll buy Vice for $15 faster than for $20.

The other one I go to has more imports and other unusual stuff but its SOOOO pricey. $70 for a modded SNES. A SNES is around $36, so do you think it's fair to charge an extra $40 or so for a small and from what I hear generally easy mod?

I think it makes sense to charge a little over the online price, because anyone can get stuff online whenever they want, but there's a certain degree of novelty in finding something "in the wild."  And you don't have to pay for shipping.  But you could argue the opposite too:  it's more convenient to go online to get what I want, and I can pick from everything available online, so I know I'm getting my game in the condition I want.  And since it's less convenient to wait for my local store to get a given game in, they shouldn't charge as much.

At the end of the day, it's up to each collector to decide how much is too much to pay.  Snatcher might be fetching upwards of $500 online, but there's no way in hell I'll be paying that much for it.

There is the novelty of seeing that games you've wanted for a while on the shelf at a retro store, and you see for sure what you're getting, but I prefer online personally. I like the convenience and if I can be dramatic I like opening the package and seeing what Ive waited for.

And pretty much. As much as we might want something, its still entertainment, and paying a premium for a 20 year old game isn't enticing unless you're rich. Dragon Fighter is one of my top 5 favorite games, but no way in hell im paying $120 for it.

I've just started collecting my childhood memories, beginning with Game Boy classic. I have  one complete game and 8 more on their way to my home. It's so difficult to find complete english games for the old GB in one place. I have found 3 very good stores so far, 1 in England and 2 on Germany. The first, i've got all that it had to offer, as for the stores from Germany, the one is very expensive and the other one, while it has over 1000+ boxed GB games, 80% of them are german.

Good luck building up your collection, man. Boxed games annoy me when it comes to finding them for a good price, especially Nintendo's cheap cardboard ones. Gameboy classic was such an amazing system. I had an SP growing up, but always bought classic GB games for cheap at GameStop before they sucked ass. Oh, those memories. If I can recommend Megaman 2 for Gameboy, I highly recommend it!

If I am really searching for something, I go to Akihabara. But really famous retro games are expensive.  :'(

Sadly. Super Metroid is on my list, but $50 is a lot for such an old game.
