I sure as hell wouldn't want Konami to make it if anybody.

Agreed. Let remakes fall under fan jurisdiction, and let's get somebody competent to move the series forward.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

Things that may work once Konami gets done with their Human Centi-supository reversal surgery and trows the bums out on their surgically fresh bums. And by now we all know who they are.

HD remake of Simon's Quest. Love it, do it.
HD remake of SCVIV. Love it, do it.
HD remake of Bloodlines. Love it, do it.
do it
DO IT.

HD remake of CV64/LOD
could work so ok gets the LIDI treatment.
A really solid CV fighting game more of a retry than a remake.

HoD remake but done right, i.e. no map reveal, players start in different parts of the castle or the Transylvania map,
more options to music to the stage not just metal songs. Sorry I'm not a Metalvania fan. Give me Arujo or Yamane or whoever did SCVIV. Fuck it give me all tree.

Just for a bonus DLC a MetalMetroidvania Mario Maker Castlevania Constructor.
with Castles

And last but no least

Since it must be done. An SOTN remake in HD with a Castle that is truly a creature of chaos with more things to do and multiple characters. Although this maybe rehashing and for that matter repeating some of my earlier ideas
FUCK IT, LOVE IT, DO IT, DO IT, DO IT!!!!!!!
FILIDI for life.

Remember my name and know this. I have Suffolk Down Syndrome.

Stop me if you've heard this one.
A Belmont falls through a trap door into a square prison with no exits. After hitting three sides he smashes through the last one. Relieved and low on health he looks at the camera, smiles and says......"Pork chop?"
ULTIMATE FOURTH WALL BREAK!!! That just happened!!!

SotN HD where the castle is an actual 3d object which the player moves "around" but on a 2d trajectory. #makeithappen

I don't want another puzzlevania which DS relies too heavily upon.

Please elaborate, I wanna read more about this and underestand better what you meant.

I find the Darksiders style of game very "boxed" room-by-room more like the original Legend of Zelda where you have to move objects or do A to get to B.

Kazudra said "I dunno about the open-world aspect anymore, too much padding nowadays, I guess we could go for a Darksiders 2-esque deal".

I disagree that this is the way the franchise would need to be handled. I believe an open world CV game would actually be very interesting, particularly if it was a true open world game with no hand holding and you had to traverse areas in no particular order.

Puzzles in CV were heavily trialed in LOS and this did not do it any favours. 1 or 2 puzzles in the whole game like N64 Cv would have been better and not slowed the pacing to a hault.

Oh... Hohohohoho that escalated quickly!
When you said DS games, I thought you were referring to Castlevania games on DS. Now I understood what you meant.

I agree with you on that, we need only a few puzzles to make things interesting and only if they make sense, otherwise let it go. I like puzzles like in HoD (not HoDesp.) and Aria, they aren't very hard and optional (needing to look away and backdash on that skull in AoS wasn't obvious at the first time to me, but is still easy to discover).

Even in OoE and PoR quests were simple, while 64 and LoD have a "escort mission" thing in some part. I think that it should focus mainly in action. Puzzles are meant for Resident Evil as much as Action is for Castlevania, focus too much in the other side and it detracts from the main material (while newer RE are good games, I think they lost its charm).

Aria had the best puzzles of any CV imo. I felt like the skull thing was so simple yet so effective and I didn't work it out straight away because I never really used backdash on the first playthrough. It was only during Boss rush I started to use it to do combo's.

OOE had the one puzzle style of boss, the Cerberus Glyphs as well as the bomb puzzle under water and obtaining the wind glyph which I thought was enough, and it incorporated Magnus very well into the game particularly when fighting the crab boss.

Yes, simple puzzles like these are welcome because they blend with the gameplay, you simply do it after some tries or think "well, I can do it later anyway" and proceed to action. One of the hardest puzzles that I can think of is on DXC, where you need to use clock's item crash, but this stage doesnt have a clock, so you need to carry it and survive for 2 or 3 entire stages until you reach this place. Even so its optional (and I still need to get this music track!!).

Isn't that totally taking inspiration from XX where you had to carry the key from one level to another? That's cool though.

I forgot the Coliseum in Aria, the whole Dpad puzzles were awesome.

SOTN's clock tower cogs puzzle was also cool

Just hypothetically assuming that Konami could still make a great Castlevania game, I'd say Simon's Quest. That's it. That's the only one I'd want remade. I'd love to see how a remake turned out if the game was well-crafted from start to finish. (I love the original...I think it has lots of charm, but to deny its faults would be absurd)
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

I would love to see a Christian Whitehead remake of SoTN, by the looks of his Sonic track record, he'll be ideal in remastering any 2D game.

He just has to make sure it's not mobile only like Sonic 1 and Sonic 2  ;)

But seriously that would be pretty neat.  A rerelease (emulation or remastered port) of Bloodlines would also be pretty great since it hasn't been rereleased yet (also it's hella expensive for even just a loose cartridge.  Around $50 for a loose cartridge when I paid for mine!)

Whoa...after nearly 4 years, my login ID still works! O_o

*ahem* But anyway...

As someone who's finally buckling down and playing the LoS titles - and enjoying them! - it occurs to me what I would love to see happen to Castlevania 64: Legacy of Darkness...

It needs to be remade in the style of LoS.

Wait! No fangs in my throat yet!!! <:D

I'm not suggesting the hyper titan battles and QTE events...nonononono. What I AM talking about is smooth exploration control, wildly fun battling, and - as seen in LoS 2 - a manageable camera. All wrapped up in a modern graphical sheen.

It has been argued that LoS was a lot of fun, but not entirely CV. So why not take what it did right, and apply it to a game that IS? :)

@squaretex:

I could see that working out well. And as you mentioned, as long as the titan battles and the QTE's are left out. But I would also leave out the sponge enemies, the constant arena fights, and the over-usage of combos. With the above all taken out of the equation, and given more camera control like in IGA's 3Dvanias, what we have left could very well benefit a CV64/LoD remaster/remake.
