Bucky O'Hare, spiritual sequel to Castlevania 3?

Ok so the thread title is hyperbolic, "Bucky O'Hare" on the NES owes more to Mega Man than any of the Castlevania games. But playing through it today I noticed a few interesting similarities. The death sound should be very familiar to any fan of Castlevania 3, as should the ability to use the select button to switch between different characters with special abilities whom you unlock. Though there are more of them, you don't have to pick just 1, and you don't have to fight them first this time around. Anybody else notice this? Or played this title? It's a fun game if you like Mega Man style action platformers. Good graphics, great soundtrack. I've never been able to beat the schmup final stage though.

OMG I loved Bucky O' Hare when I was a kid. I had the action figures!

I never played the game though!

I'll be downloading that next time I fire up my Ouya.

Bucky O' Hair is one of those one hit Konami wonders on the NES. The game itself is quite impressive and not just for it's musical composition either. The game actually has multiple-scrolling backgrounds which is almost never used on the NES. It was impressive to say the least. But boy! That game gets hard real quick!

It was crazy hard for me, almost Battletoads hard. You need some serious reflexes to get anywhere  :'(

Huh...I bought and played through this one about 6 or 7 months ago...didn't realize those two similarities at all. That's pretty cool. Definitely a great game, too.
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

And the graphics were decent. Like Mega Man, each of the player sprites was comprised of multiple palettes, if i remember right (started ripping the graphics and got distracted).

Yeah and I forgot to mention another similarity, the tree vine platforms in the green planet stage that you have to time your jumps on reminded me of the CV3 clock pendulums. Both games also have a password system but they're not really the same there since CV3 uses more distinct symbols for its passwords instead of letters/numbers.

And the graphics were decent. Like Mega Man, each of the player sprites was comprised of multiple palettes, if i remember right (started ripping the graphics and got distracted).

Yeah, very good for the NES, Konami really knew how to make the machine sing by this time.

Yeah it's tough, but pretty forgiving in some respects. You've got unlimited continues (I believe) and it always starts you off on the section of the level you died. Plus a password system. I never have beaten the final level though like I said, because I'm terrible a auto scrolling shoot'em ups.
