I'm not really thrilled, but not for the reasons one might expect.
I can't really call it some insane deviation from the "true" Metal Gear titles, since the standard titles already get into some really trippy shit anyway (combat clone babies, giant AI nukebots, cyborgs, nanomachines, and downright crazy levels of convoluted plot) and rock zombies isn't that big a step from what the series has already done, really.
But it just doesn't look particularly interesting at present--another zombie shooter but with stealth this time, if only there were a similar game with a rugged old guy and a teenage girl...oh wait!
That all being said, I gave Rising a similar "this isn't the Metal Gear I know and love, fuck this trash!" attitude when I first heard about it and looked into it--something I wish I'd given a fairer chance, because having played Rising quite a few times I very heavily enjoy it for what it was always meant to be: a rip-roaring hack-and-slashin' good time.
Perhaps Survive will be of a similar nature--just a fun time deviating into wacky territory from the "normal" saga and timeline that was never meant to be taken too seriously. Maybe it'll be legit awful. I have no idea, but I'm holding off my ranting and raving about it for now, since at this point we're basically in the phase of "let's play Spot The Konami Witch-Hunt Fans" since there are doubtlessly people judging it solely because Kojima isn't on it and Konami did a bad thing or two awhile back.
But hey, I really loved The Last of Us, so perhaps I'll find enjoyment in what basically also amounts to "avoid zombies, be sneaky."
