This is just kind of lolwut for me. I don't know whether to be interested or to laugh at it.

Before I wanted Konami to try their hand at Castlevania without IGA. Now, after watching this, I want them to STAY THE HELL AWAY from Castlevania. They'll turn it into a tactical espionage action game or soccer game.

My money's on a tower defense game with QTE DLC. "This time, instead of attacking Dracula's Castle...the player should...DEFEND it! Brilliant!"
It's like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, but instead it's Who Wants Fried Chicken? I do.

I'm pretty sure Konami is cooking some new Castlevania for us too.

Call it a slightly more informed hunch.

Could you elaborate?

This is the same thing everyone is doing, yet another "survival" game.
Fast money grab with a good name behind it.
I have nothing against survival games but once you have seen 20 of them you have pretty much seen them all.

Well, zombies are not a new thing in Metal Gear (4 and 5 both had different kinds of zombies, with 5's being more "literal" zombies), nor are alternate universes (which were the WHOLE FOCAL POINT of the final Snake Tales single player campaign in MGS2), and we had Co-Op in Peace Walker. Furthermore, Metal Gear Ac!d 1&2 are "canon but in an alternate universe" according to Hideo Kojima himself, so none of this is actually as bizarre to the premise of Metal Gear as most fans seem to assume. This is the first time these tropes from the series have all been collected in one spot, but none of this is bringing anything into the franchise that Kojima hadn't already put there before he left.

Also I have a sneaking suspicion that the zombies BIOLOGICAL THREATS are just a general antagonist force whereas the game will have a properly Metal Gear villain pulling the strings and being behind the wormholes to begin with, especially given the "nano machines gone wild" look of the zombies.

Also, no matter how bad this game is, it can't POSSIBLY be as bad and infuriatingly incomplete as The Phantom Pain turned out to be.

So there's that.
How not to be a dark lord: the answer to that is a terribly interesting answer that involves an almost Jedi-like adherence to keeping oneself under control and finding ways to be true to yourself in a way that doesn't encourage the worst parts of you to become dangerously exaggerated and instead feeds your better nature. Also, protip: don't fuck with Alchemy or strike up any deals with ancient Japanese Shinigami gods no matter how tempting the deal or how suavely dressed the Shinigami is.

This is too true, unfortunately. There's no Kojima to bully this time around.

Technically that already happened. Metal Gear Ray is a close contender as its front has that pyramid-ish shape to it.

I'm not really thrilled, but not for the reasons one might expect.

I can't really call it some insane deviation from the "true" Metal Gear titles, since the standard titles already get into some really trippy shit anyway (combat clone babies, giant AI nukebots, cyborgs, nanomachines, and downright crazy levels of convoluted plot) and rock zombies isn't that big a step from what the series has already done, really.

But it just doesn't look particularly interesting at present--another zombie shooter but with stealth this time, if only there were a similar game with a rugged old guy and a teenage girl...oh wait!

That all being said, I gave Rising a similar "this isn't the Metal Gear I know and love, fuck this trash!" attitude when I first heard about it and looked into it--something I wish I'd given a fairer chance, because having played Rising quite a few times I very heavily enjoy it for what it was always meant to be: a rip-roaring hack-and-slashin' good time.

Perhaps Survive will be of a similar nature--just a fun time deviating into wacky territory from the "normal" saga and timeline that was never meant to be taken too seriously. Maybe it'll be legit awful. I have no idea, but I'm holding off my ranting and raving about it for now, since at this point we're basically in the phase of "let's play Spot The Konami Witch-Hunt Fans" since there are doubtlessly people judging it solely because Kojima isn't on it and Konami did a bad thing or two awhile back.

But hey, I really loved The Last of Us, so perhaps I'll find enjoyment in what basically also amounts to "avoid zombies, be sneaky."

I like your attitude, friend.

I do appreciate that Konami is skimming over the entire clusterfuck they had with Phantom Pain and THAT final "twist". The sooner Venom Snake is banished from fanon, the better. I'm gonna reiterate my hope here: I really hope we get a proper Metal Gear style villain in the third act or sooner, some evil conspiracy that was experimenting with nanomachines and ended up making the zombies as a result, and then they too got locked in the other dimension.

Especially going to be awesome when your character asks how the zombies were made and they do the "anime push their glasses up" thing and just go "...NANOMACHINES SON."

Depending on whether or not there's more to the Alternate Universe than "generic dusty desert", there may even be more potential for future stories in that setting.

This whole thing REEKS of backdoor pilot, but in the best way.
